Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in sociology, social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • Three years of full-time, paid, professional experience in an educational or social service setting involving work with parents.
  • Knowledge of community-based issues and organizations and the methods, processes, and techniques used to implement initiatives.
  • Ability to lead, manage, and motivate subordinate staff.
  • Ability to attain effective results, complete assignments in a timely manner, and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to coordinate, implement, and monitor comprehensive, multifaceted programs.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as outreach events dictate.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel frequently locally.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and oversee family and community engagement initiatives within a cluster of schools.
  • Serve as a coach and liaison to neighborhood networks and supervise school-based family engagement staff implementing engagement strategies.
  • Help schools develop and implement community partnerships and manage family concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with Title I, Part A parent involvement regulations through meaningful and strategic actions that build parent capacity.
  • Work with teachers and staff on practices for communicating and working effectively with parents as equal partners in student achievement.
  • Provide strategic and logistical support for family and community engagement efforts at the school, network, and district levels.
  • Conduct needs assessments; plan, develop, schedule, and implement a district-wide family engagement program; and assist with evaluating its effectiveness through surveys and other methods.
  • Plan, schedule, monitor, and certify school and district advisory council elections.
  • Develop and present in-service education programs for school administrators, teachers, and families.
  • Provide training-for-trainers programs and materials for school personnel to conduct family engagement workshops.
  • Assign, schedule, monitor, train, and review assigned staff; observe and document performance; prepare periodic performance evaluations; develop unit work metrics; and issue oral and written directives.
  • Develop strategies and uniform standards for welcoming school climates that value parents as resources for student achievement and school success.
  • Participate in reviews of district policies and research on best practices, and support schools in developing productive family and community partnerships.
  • Administer family engagement strategies and create participation opportunities for parents with limited English proficiency, disabilities, or social, economic, or racial barriers.
  • Provide technical assistance on parental involvement at the local school and district levels.
  • Counsel staff and families to evaluate situations, solve problems, and resolve conflicts that affect student success.
  • Align expectations, accountability mechanisms, systems, messaging, and supports across School District departments to help schools engage families effectively.
  • Design and write parent involvement handbooks, brochures, flyers, newsletters, and related materials.
  • Support the Network and District Advisory Councils by preparing and distributing agendas, materials, and meeting announcements; researching and presenting requested reports; arranging child care; following up on decisions; and initiating approval processes for conference attendance and expenditures.
  • Visit schools to review program implementation and coordinate teams conducting engagement assessments and Family Friendly Schools walkthroughs.
  • Monitor Title I, Part A schools for compliance with parental involvement requirements and ensure related budgets and expenditures are used correctly.
  • Provide technical assistance, training, materials, and professional development to administrators, parental involvement coordinators or liaisons, and family engagement professionals.
  • Identify family training needs and conduct ongoing training sessions and workshops.
  • Identify community service organizations, refer families to public and private social and health service organizations, follow up on referrals and service quality, maintain referral records, and encourage participation in parent involvement programs and activities.
  • Participate in authorized local or state professional learning opportunities and attend meetings and trainings for Family and Community Engagement Coordinators.
  • Share ideas and experiences with school or district staff, leadership teams, and parent professionals.
  • Maintain records of parent involvement activities, reports, surveys, evaluations, funding, annual program evaluations, and communications to parents.
  • Ensure school or district parent involvement programs remain compliant with state and federal guidelines and stay informed about current requirements and practices.
  • Report to central office and support implementation of the Family Resource Center one day per week.
  • Work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, to meet parents' needs; work the complete month of June and two weeks in August for training and school-opening support, not exceeding 20 hours per week.
