Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant is required.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with electronic medical records, are required.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, including Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required.
  • The ability to display excellent telephone and switchboard etiquette is required.
  • The ability to handle and transfer patients, operate a computer and telephone, lift and move patients and medical equipment as needed, lift or carry up to 15 pounds, and work through prolonged periods of standing, walking, sitting, pushing, bending, kneeling, and reaching is required.
  • The candidate must have their own means of transportation.
  • The candidate must be able to handle data confidentially, work cross-functionally and independently with minimal supervision, communicate effectively with patients and stakeholders, and demonstrate organizational, time-management, multitasking, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Greet and prepare patients for provider examinations by obtaining patient history, chief complaint, current medications, medical history, allergies, surgical history, family history, social history, and preventative medicine reviews; take patients’ vital signs; and record the information in the electronic medical record.
  • Assist providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures as directed.
  • Maintain complete and detailed patient records electronically in the electronic medical record and in accordance with center policy.
  • Handle front-desk operations, including answering phones, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, addressing routine inquiries, and triaging calls.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and provider instructions to patients.
  • Prepare patients and rooms for examinations.
  • Complete patient phone calls, including proactive care coordination, medication reminders, appointment reminders, and transitional care management, and document telephone encounters.
  • Support patients and providers during procedures by handing instruments or equipment to physicians as directed.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Administer oral and injectable medications; irrigate eyes and ears; dress and bandage wounds and incisions; start and monitor IV infusions; and assist physicians with procedures as requested.
  • Perform in-office diagnostic tests, including eye examinations, electrocardiography, oxygen administration as ordered, pulse oximetry, peak-flow testing, and inhalation treatments.
  • Perform in-office Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived laboratory tests.
  • Carry out quality controls for laboratory equipment and testing, maintain laboratory logs, perform PT/INR testing with CoaguChek or Coag-Sense machines, and perform glucose testing with a glucometer.
  • Complete electronic medical records with medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used.
  • Monitor disposable inventory and order medical supplies and pharmaceuticals as requested.
  • Draw blood and process specimens for send-out.
  • Provide patient education as directed by the provider.
  • Perform front-office clerical duties, including patient check-in and check-out, referrals, prescription medication management, and inbound and outbound telephone calls.
  • Maintain adequate inventories of office medications, medical supplies, and office supplies and place orders as needed.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
  • Perform additional assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, preferably leading to Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant status.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
  • IV start certification.
  • Phlebotomy experience, including knowledge of collection methods, testing, donor blood collection, bedside testing, and specimen preparation.
  • Knowledge of medical coding.
  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requirements.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements.
  • Working knowledge of common prescription medications used to treat conditions and diseases affecting the assigned patient population.
