Requirements
  • An educational background equivalent to a high school diploma is required for Crew Member I.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required for Crew Member II.
  • Crew Member II requires one year of experience and/or training involving manual labor, successful progression from Crew Member I, or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • A valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license is required.
  • Crew Member II requires a Commercial Driver's License Class B.
  • Crew Member I must possess or obtain VDOT-approved Basic Work Zone Traffic Control certification within one year of hire.
  • Crew Member II must possess a VDOT-approved Basic Work Zone Traffic Control certification.
  • Employees must complete and maintain OSHA-required training and certifications applicable to the position, including assigned training within 30 days of employment or placement.
  • Crew Member II must meet and maintain the minimum qualifications, licenses, certifications, and training requirements for the preceding position in the career ladder.
  • The position requires working around heavy equipment and traffic in outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dirt.
  • Employees must follow established safety procedures and may assist with emergency response activities as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with collecting refuse, recycling, and debris and help load materials onto collection trucks for disposal.
  • Support the distribution of refuse and recycling containers.
  • Collect residential and commercial refuse and recycling on designated routes and ensure materials are handled and disposed of correctly.
  • Distribute refuse containers and materials to residents as needed.
  • Operate sanitation vehicles and equipment to support collection activities as assigned.
