Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse program.
  • Successfully pass the certifying examination and obtain approval from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, Advanced Practice Nursing, to perform medical services under an approved Collaborative Practice Agreement.
  • Maintain current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse status in Louisiana.
  • Maintain current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Maintain current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Demonstrate basic computer knowledge and proficiency with basic computer programs and operations.
  • Apply technical nursing principles, concepts, and techniques.
  • Interview and communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, coworkers, and other departments.
  • Use initiative, decision-making, and independent judgment.
  • Monitor and interpret patients' hemodynamic status.
  • Recognize cardiac dysrhythmias through cardiac monitoring.
  • Administer skills taught in nursing training.
  • Interpret electrocardiograms.
  • Apply infection control procedures.
  • Provide age-appropriate care.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Work regular hours and weekends when necessary.
  • Function flexibly and remain organized under stressful conditions, frequent interruptions, and competing priorities.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult specialists as required, and adjust care processes to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Coordinate care planning with other disciplines and provide direct and indirect patient care.
  • Triage every patient entering the clinic safely, rapidly, and accurately.
  • Determine care priorities based on physical and psychosocial needs and factors affecting patient flow.
  • Communicate changes in patients' status, symptoms, and diagnostic study results to physicians.
  • Respond quickly and accurately to patients' conditions and responses to treatment.
  • Perform, dictate, or write history and physical assessments and reassessments according to policy.
  • Dictate and write progress notes.
  • Dictate discharge summaries.
  • Initiate and transcribe sponsoring physician orders through verbal communication to the nurse.
  • Initiate appropriate evaluation and assist with emergency management for cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, burns, hemorrhage, and other emergencies.
  • Review patient records to determine health status.
  • Participate in professional development to maintain administrative and clinical competence.
  • Complete annual education requirements and maintain regulatory requirements.
  • Attend annual reviews and department in-services as scheduled.
  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments, and staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification is preferred but not required.
