Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development credential.
  • One to two years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping with a financial institution.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and find solutions to problems.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
Responsibilities
  • Perform clerical and routine accounting tasks supporting the Accounting Department, including posting entries, verifying and reconciling financial reporting system input and output, processing payments, and assisting with billings and financial reports.
  • Research and respond to customer and internal inquiries, resolve customer problems as appropriate, and assist other employees with problems.
  • Resolve routine questions and issues and refer complex matters to the appropriate supervisor or department.
  • Maintain the general upkeep of the department area and equipment.
  • Work with departments or vendors to resolve issues.
  • Receive correspondence and, when authorized, research, process, and supply photocopies of records for subpoenas and customers.
  • Mail holds and notices, including overdraft, change-of-address, and time-deposit-check notices.
  • Complete verification of deposit requests.
  • Reconcile general ledger and in-house deposit accounts.
  • Post and reconcile general ledger accounts in a timely manner and research and enter financial transactions daily.
  • Track and report accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies.
  • Process returned mail and update addresses when needed.
  • Balance official checks.
  • Balance the correspondent bank account daily.
  • Back up the Controller for reporting backup-withholding taxes.
  • Cross-train monthly with the Accounting Clerk II.
  • Back up the Controller on accounts payable, prepaid expenses, and fixed assets.
  • Pick up and distribute mail in the morning and deliver outgoing mail to the post office in the afternoon.
  • Back up the Fraud Analyst using Fraud Sentry and Exchange.
  • Back up the courier for courthouse and branch runs.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
