Moore Motor Sales to host blood drive. CARO - Moore Motor Sales will partner with the American Red Cross and Neighborhood Michigan Ford Dealers to host a community blood drive on Friday, July 31, as part of the statewide Roll Up & Give campaign. The blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the showroom at Moore Motor Sales, 1725 W. Caro Road. Roll Up & Give is a summer blood donation campaign organized by Neighborhood Michigan Ford Dealers in support of Ford Motor Company's Building Together initiative. The campaign is designed to help address seasonal blood shortages by encouraging donations at more than 30 participating dealerships across four Michigan markets. The event comes as the American Red Cross has declared an emergency blood shortage after the nation's blood supply fell nearly 25% in June. The organization says blood donations have dropped sharply since late May while hospital demand has increased during the summer trauma season, when emergency rooms typically treat more patients with serious injuries. The shortage is especially severe for O positive and B negative blood types, although donations of all blood types are needed. According to the Red Cross, someone in the United States needs blood or platelets every two seconds. Donated blood is used to treat trauma victims, cancer patients, people with sickle cell disease, mothers experiencing childbirth complications and patients undergoing major surgeries. Because blood has a limited shelf life and cannot be manufactured, the supply relies entirely on volunteer donors. In addition to blood donations, the Moore Motor Sales event will feature games, food, music and family-friendly activities designed to create a community celebration while supporting a lifesaving cause. The Roll Up & Give campaign was piloted in West Michigan during the summer of 2025, when 13 Ford dealerships collected 363 units of blood and welcomed 232 first-time donors. This year's campaign runs from June 4 through July 31, with participating Neighborhood Michigan Ford dealerships working to collect as many blood donations as possible across the state. Community members interested in donating can schedule an appointment through the American Red Cross or by visiting the Roll Up & Give website to find a participating dealership. Donations from eligible volunteers of all blood types are encouraged.

City of Grand Island Jul 22, 2026 | 7:37 AM The secure lock box stores a spare house key that can only be accessed by authorized emergency responders during emergency incidents, (City of Grand Island, Courtesy) GRAND ISLAND - The Grand Island Fire Department is introducing a new Residential Knox Box Loaner Program designed to help firefighters and paramedics reach residents more quickly during emergencies while reducing the need for forced entry into homes. The program provides qualifying Grand Island residents with a City-owned residential Knox Box at no cost. The secure lock box stores a spare house key that can only be accessed by authorized emergency responders during emergency incidents. Once approved, Fire Department personnel will install the Knox Box at the resident's home. "When every second matters, being able to enter a home without delay can make a significant difference," GIFD Fire Prevention Division Chief Phil Thomas said. "This program helps us reach residents who may be unable to answer the door during a medical emergency while also helping prevent unnecessary damage to their homes." The Residential Knox Box Loaner Program is intended for residents who have medical or physical conditions that may prevent them from opening their door during an emergency. Priority will be given to seniors, individuals with mobility limitations or chronic medical conditions, and residents who live alone or are frequently alone. Applicants must reside within the Grand Island city limits and live in an owner-occupied residence. "Many people want to remain safely and independently in their own homes for as long as possible, but emergencies can create unexpected challenges," said Rachelle Lipker, Executive Director of the American Red Cross serving Central and Western Nebraska. "This program helps remove one of those barriers by making it easier for first responders to quickly reach residents when every second counts." The Fire Department currently has 10 loaner Knox Boxes available through the program. Boxes will be distributed based on eligibility and available inventory. If demand exceeds the current supply, eligible applicants will be placed on a waiting list as the department pursues additional funding opportunities to expand the program. The Residential Knox Box Loaner Program reflects the Grand Island Fire Department's ongoing commitment to improving emergency response, protecting property and enhancing the safety of residents throughout the community. This program would not have been possible without the generous donation from the American Red Cross, which provided the initial funding to launch the Residential Knox Box Loaner Program. As the program grows, GIFD will actively pursue grant opportunities and additional community partnerships to purchase more Knox Boxes. The American Red Cross is also partnering with Heartland United Way, NextPoint Home Development, Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity and the Multicultural Coalition to help raise awareness of the program and connect eligible residents with this life-saving resource. Each Knox Box costs approximately $565, and every donation helps provide this resource to residents who need it most. Tyler Bodiford named chief financial officer at Medical City Weatherford. He will continue serving as CFO of Medical City Decatur in addition to his new responsibilities at Medical City Weatherford. In this expanded role, Bodiford oversees the hospital's financial operations, including finance, patient access, health information management, case management, revenue integrity, information technology and services (IT&S), and supply chain. Prior to his roles at Medical City Weatherford and Medical City Decatur, Bodiford held financial leadership roles as CFO for HCA HealthTrust North Texas Supply Chain and assistant CFO and controller at HCA Healthcare's TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.
