Requirements
  • Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Plant Biology, Phytopathology, Viticulture, or a closely related discipline.
  • They must demonstrate an established record of scholarly achievement appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
  • They must have at least eight years of experience in research and teaching.
  • They must demonstrate proven success in leading research teams, securing external funding, and supervising personnel or programs.
Responsibilities
  • Teach biology, plant biology, plant pathology, plant physiology, and genetics courses.
  • Maintain a vibrant research program and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Lake Erie Regional Grape Research and Extension Center, supervising staff and managing budgets.
  • Coordinate the agricultural calendar for vineyard maintenance, seasonal spraying, and harvest activities.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Center and growers, industry partners, and community stakeholders, hosting field days, workshops, and educational programs; representing the Center at meetings and conferences.
  • Support research initiatives and foster collaboration across Penn State campuses and industry.
  • Develop strategic plans to advance the Center’s impact and sustainability, including broadening its scope beyond grapes.
