Requirements
  • Knowledge of laboratory operations, laboratory information systems, and laboratory equipment in one or more discipline areas within the School.
  • Advanced ability to use computer technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, detail-orientation, decision-making, follow-up, and task-completion abilities.
  • Effective interpersonal, listening, oral, and written communication skills for communicating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience providing effective customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with individuals internal and external to Dallas College.
  • Ability to comply with district policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Associate degree plus one year of related work experience and/or experience in a teaching environment; two years of related work experience may substitute for the associate degree.
  • Official transcripts are required.
  • Ability to complete a criminal background check; some positions may require a fingerprint check.
  • Some positions may require specific state licenses or certifications depending on the discipline.
Responsibilities
  • Perform daily operations and maintenance of laboratories, specialized classrooms, learning laboratories, tool rooms, and equipment in support of courses and programs.
  • Promote laboratory safety practices and provide student training on safety procedures and hazardous materials handling.
  • Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets information for chemicals and materials as required.
  • Perform periodic inventory and maintain accurate inventory of equipment, tools, materials, and supplies.
  • Receive, store, and issue tools, supplies, and equipment associated with courses or programs.
  • Maintain logs of tools, materials, and equipment distributed and returned.
  • Maintain the security of assigned inventory.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and information systems in good working condition; schedule and complete repairs in a timely manner; perform minor repairs and calibrations as needed.
  • Schedule preventive equipment maintenance and recommend replacement or new equipment acquisitions.
  • Schedule repairs and prepare and track purchase requisitions.
  • Serve as the primary vendor contact for quotes and purchases.
  • Partner with faculty to coordinate learning laboratory support services, including student orientation and training.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory hardware and software issues.
  • Monitor students in the computer lab during open laboratory periods.
  • Monitor laboratory activities to ensure a safe and clean learning environment.
  • Serve as a resource to students, staff, and faculty in the area of specialization.
  • Monitor and control budget expenditures within the allocation.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate laboratory assistants and assigned staff.
  • Determine work schedules and assignments in collaboration with faculty.
  • Keep current with the professional and technical aspects of the job.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external stakeholders and constituents.
  • Complete required Dallas College professional development training hours per academic year.
  • Perform other assigned job duties.
