The Opportunity

As a dedicated Intermediate Level- Public Cloud Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge technologies in our Public Cloud Enablement Journey at USAA within the Cloud Services Organization. They will perform technical activities aimed at furthering the maturity of USAA’s public cloud capabilities in order to enable USAA departments to expand applications into the cloud. The candidate will work with cross-functional teams to build and deploy cloud infrastructure within the USAA environments as we move to a more flexible and dynamic operating environment.

Provides support to the Enterprise through delivering best in class technology solutions. Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you’ll do:

• Design, develop, code, and test technical solutions
• Write code to deliver features, and improvements, on a regular basis
• Investigates and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques
• Continually improves operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.
• Prepares and installs solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
• Follows the software development lifecycle.
• Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures

What you have:

• Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).
• 2 years of software development experience specific to a discipline/technology.
• 1 year of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle.
• Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, and Python
• Knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting applications and systems within production issues.
• Ability to quickly understand applicable business acumen to provide appropriate Engineering solutions
• Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
• Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.

What sets you apart:

• 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Azure); Certifications highly preferred
• 2 years of experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform for pipeline setup and support in a CI/CD environment
• Experience with AWS Compute
• Configuration and development experience with Puppet and GoLang
• Experience working in an Agile delivery environment
• Experience using Reporting, Dashboarding, and Monitoring tools to manage a cloud environment

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $77,120-$147,390.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
