Requirements
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance and food safety principles.
  • Knowledge of Safe Food for Canadians Regulations and the Global Food Safety Initiative.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or a related field.
  • Two to three years of experience in a related field.
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct supervision and daily support to Quality Assurance Technicians.
  • Provide food safety and quality direction to Production, Research and Development, Purchasing, Shipping and Receiving, Maintenance, Planning, and Sanitation.
  • Advise department managers and supervisors of non-compliances and deviations.
  • Assist the HACCP coordinator and Quality Assurance Manager with site audits and take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of HACCP and BRC systems.
  • Perform internal audits and on-site inspections of Good Manufacturing Practices, sanitation, and animal welfare.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, BRC, and customer requirements.
  • Monitor and verify food safety programs, practices, and overall standard operating procedure compliance within the facility.
  • Assist with Good Manufacturing Practices and technical training of personnel on HACCP and BRC functions.
  • Investigate HACCP and BRC non-compliance and deviations through root-cause and risk analysis and the application of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Assist the Quality Assurance Manager with complaint investigations, resolving deviations, root-cause analysis, and the application of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure supplier compliance, and issue, communicate, track, trend, and manage deviation non-conformity reports.
  • Identify food-safety trends, including foreign material, holds, and deviations, and communicate findings to management.
  • Ensure appropriate product holds and timely dispositions.
  • Provide technical documentation for testing products and raw materials.
  • Review schedules and manage allergens.
  • Maintain the verification schedule and ensure verification compliance through record reviews, on-site observations, interviews, and related activities.
  • Assist with creating and revising product specifications to ensure food safety and quality.
  • Develop and maintain incoming specifications and online profiling spreadsheets to track and trend quality parameters.
  • Suspend operations when serious food safety and quality risks are identified.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager.
