Requirements
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited Graduate Program in a Mental Health related field.
  • Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a State, District of Columbia, US Territory or Commonwealth that grants authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner.
  • A minimum of two years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Demonstrate intermediate-level competencies in technology and software, including Microsoft Suite, Internet navigation, smartphone/tablet and application navigation, and video-conferencing platform navigation.
  • Requires ability to engage and communicate with military members or children as assigned, and respond quickly to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation and/or within a school setting, including traversing distances and working in outdoor weather and base conditions.
  • Possess US Citizenship and fluency in English.
  • Understanding, sensitivity and empathy for service members and their families, and ability to develop trusting, helping relationships.
  • Ability to work with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) Clearance, an Installation Records Check (IRC), Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprints Check.
  • A valid U.S. state vehicle operator’s license is required, and may be required to obtain a U.S. military vehicle operator’s permit for use at Temporary Duty locations if required.
  • Must meet Magellan Military Family Life Counseling Child and Youth Behavioral criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology; school assigned counselors must have past work experience in a school setting.
Responsibilities
  • Provide the full breadth of Child and Youth Behavioral counseling services to children of all ages of military service members and their families at military installations and off-base locations, including non-medical counseling, assessment, brief counseling and consultation, action planning, referral to resources, and follow-up as indicated.
  • Provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling directly to eligible children and youth of service members at assigned primary and secondary locations.
  • Offer training and health and wellness presentations, participate in health fairs and base/installation activities focused on children and youth.
  • Enter counselor activity data daily through smartphone or web application to ensure accurate reporting while maintaining confidentiality and anonymity.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with community resources focused on children and youth and provide appropriate linkages, and maintain visibility within the school to meet line of sight protocol.
  • Partner with Point of Contact to provide CYB services addressing installation/facility needs and develop effective working relationships with POC.
  • Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to Department of Defense protocol and coordinate with Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
  • Communicate with Regional Supervisor and participate in regular supervision, respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed, and flex schedule as needed for urgent requests.
  • Participate in regular in-services, Quality Improvement committees, pilot programs, training processes, and ensure documentation and integration of pilot activities, using applicable technology.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by leadership.
