Perplexity, a new AI startup valued at $14 billion following a May funding round, is gaining attention in Silicon Valley as a potential threat to Google Search. Both Meta and Apple have reportedly considered acquiring it. In May, Perplexity launched a beta version of its AI-powered Comet browser, only available to Mac users running Apple Silicon.
Apple is reportedly considering acquiring Perplexity AI, an AI-powered search platform valued at $14 billion, in a move that could challenge Google's dominance in search. Zuckerberg is aggressively revamping Meta's AI strategy, hiring Alexandr Wang for over $14 billion to lead the effort. SSI co-founder Daniel Gross and ex-Github CEO Nat Friedman will co-lead the Meta AI assistant. Meanwhile, Ilya Sutskever raised $2 billion for SSI, with Meta and Google as investors.
