Requirements
  • A Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
  • Three or more years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.
  • Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code.
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.
  • Ability to perform lighting level calculations.
  • Ability to size wire, conduit, and overcurrent protection for lighting and power applications.
  • Ability to perform voltage drop calculations.
  • Ability to route conduit and cable tray.
  • Ability to calculate tray and conduit fill.
  • Ability to determine motor control center loading.
  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from vendor equipment drawings.
  • Ability to determine load center unit substation loading.
  • Ability to size control valves using appropriate software.
  • Ability to develop specifications and data sheets for instrumentation, analyzers, control systems, and actuated valves.
  • Familiarity with standards applicable to instrumentation and controls, including ISA standards.
  • Ability to develop equipment specifications for motor control centers, variable frequency drives, induction and synchronous motors, and load center unit substations.
  • Knowledge of schedule constraints and information requirements for producing electrical deliverables.
  • Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, detailed engineering schedule, and man-hour budget for a small project or an area of a larger project.
  • Ability to determine construction material quantities.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and computer-aided design drafting standards.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, or both.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
Responsibilities
  • Perform all aspects of complete designs for small and large electrical and instrumentation engineering assignments under general supervision.
  • Utilize department design and drafting standards.
  • Become familiar with project scope, specifications, and design criteria when assigned to a project task team.
  • Recognize and promptly communicate scope and design changes.
  • Provide on-site assistance during startup.
  • Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs appropriate to the project estimate.
  • Produce organized detail design calculations and sketches for project construction materials.
  • Produce designs that use construction materials efficiently and support ease of construction and client expectations.
  • Check other engineers' calculations for accuracy, code and specification conformance, design-criteria conformance, and sound engineering practice.
  • Assist the drafting group with routine layout and detailing problems by furnishing sketches and details needed to complete engineering drawings.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines to coordinate information needed for scheduled project completion.
  • Advise the senior engineer about identified design or scope changes.
  • Assist engineers in assembling scopes, drawings, and specifications into packages for electrical and instrumentation procurement inquiries or subcontract pricing.
  • Review and check vendor and other-discipline drawings for electrical and instrumentation input.
  • Develop construction specifications.
  • Review fabrication drawings and construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather field data, check tie-ins, and provide construction support.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis to complex designs.
  • Produce installation details, motor control center single-line diagrams, electric room layouts, motor control elementaries, connection diagrams, cable schedules, control panel layouts, and grounding, lighting, power, and instrumentation plans.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient solutions to engineering tasks.
  • Develop small work-sharing packages for interoffice execution support.
