The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey has jumped with both feet into the effort to help support veterans in the state. The Foundation, which is the philanthropic arm of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield New Jersey, recently launched a special Veterans Health Initiative. The initiative will provide grants to organizations addressing the unique challenges veterans face. The foundation began accepting grants in February. The submission deadline is May 7
Hackensack Meridian Health and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey have reached a multi-year agreement, ensuring that patients with Horizon insurance plans will continue to have in-network access to Hackensack Meridian Health’s doctors, hospitals and facilities across the state. The agreement was reached two months ahead of the June 1 deadline.Previously at an impasse in their contract negotiations, when they were unable to agree on new terms, with reimbursement rates being a central point of contention. Hackensack Meridian Health had indicated plans to terminate Horizon’s in-network benefits effective June 1.“As New Jersey’s largest health network, Hackensack Meridian Health is committed each day to ensuring that our patients have access to high-quality, innovative care,” said Robert C. (Blackwood, NJ, February 12, 2025) - Mainstage Center for the Arts has received a grant in the amount of $15,000 from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.
The About Us – The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey the philanthropic arm of Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Sheild, is launching a special Veterans Health Initiative on Feb. 3. It will provide grants to veterans’ organizations that are addressing the unique challenges veteran face.“This is a new veterans-focused grants program,” Uli Diaz, senior vice president of government and community affairs for Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield said. “The Horizon Foundation has created this special Veterans Health Initiative in recognition of the extraordinary sacrifices and contributions veterans have made and to help ensure these veterans get the support they need and deserve.”The Veterans Health Initiative will support activities in these three key areas:Behavioral health – treating mental health and trauma issues, suicide prevention, substance abuse, depression and anxiety;– treating mental health and trauma issues, suicide prevention, substance abuse, depression and anxiety; Housing and food security – helping veterans find safe, stable homes and consistent secure access to essential and healthy food sources;– helping veterans find safe, stable homes and consistent secure access to essential and healthy food sources; Economic opportunity – providing veterans with the skills they need to thrive professionally (job training, skills assessments, etc.).Grant funding will not support general operations.The Foundation will award one-year grants up to $20,000 for veterans’ organizations which serve veterans and their families.The Foundation began accepting proposals for these grants today.
