OneQode, Hitachi Vantara & Cylix form strategic alliance to launch Sovereign AI Factory initiative.

OneQode, Hitachi Vantara & Cylix form strategic alliance to launch Sovereign AI Factory initiative. Apr 07, 2026, 20:00 ET Multimillion-dollar alliance to deploy sovereign-ready AI infrastructure across key global markets, with Australia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore among the first BRISBANE, Australia, April 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - OneQode, in collaboration with Hitachi Vantara, the data storage, infrastructure and hybrid cloud management subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd. (TSE: 6501), and Cylix Applied Intelligence, today announced a Sovereign AI Factory initiative, a strategic alliance to deploy sovereign AI infrastructure across key global markets. Australia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore are among the first markets selected for the initial phase, while the United States is targeted for future expansion. The initiative will enable governments and enterprises to deploy advanced AI capabilities while maintaining full control over data, infrastructure, and regulatory compliance. Each partner contributes a key capability to this architecture: * OneQode delivers energy, facilities, telecoms and compute infrastructure - performance GPU compute, connected by their low-latency global backbone. * Hitachi Vantara brings Hitachi iQ, a validated AI infrastructure platform that integrates accelerated compute, networking and storage to keep data close to where it's processed. * Cylix Applied Intelligence architects and operates the AI layer on top, from readiness assessments and RAG deployments through to fully managed production AI services. What the partners are saying "We're genuinely excited to be working with Hitachi Vantara and Cylix on this," said Matt Shearing, CEO, OneQode. "We cut our teeth on gaming and financial services, building infrastructure for firms where microseconds matter. It's given us a particular way of thinking about compute, networking and data centre operations, and there's real demand across the Global South for sovereign AI infrastructure built to that standard, and this alliance lets us deliver it." "More than half of the enterprise tenders we're seeing in Australia now specify sovereign-capable solutions," said Nathan Knight, Vice President and Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand, Hitachi Vantara. "Boards and management teams are now treating data sovereignty as a critical requirement alongside operational resilience and security. In the event of foreign ownership, control and intervention, the impact on critical infrastructure and intellectual property would be catastrophic. We applaud OneQode's decision to make Australia one of the first locations for its Sovereign AI Factory network, and we're committed to supporting that ambition with infrastructure that meets the standard these workloads demand." "Sovereign AI requires more than infrastructure; it requires the ability to operationalize AI at scale. At Cylix, we design and deploy Sovereign AI Factory architectures and deliver fully managed AI services on top of OneQode's sovereign infrastructure and Hitachi iQ platforms. This allows organizations to move from concept to production quickly, while maintaining full control over their data, compliance, and operational environment. Our role is to ensure AI workloads are not just deployed, but continuously optimized, governed, and delivering real business value," said Ross DiStefano, Senior Vice President, HPC&AI, Cylix Applied Intelligence. Together, the three companies are building a turnkey sovereign AI platform - one that lets organisations train and deploy AI models securely, keep sensitive data within their own jurisdiction, and scale with confidence. Swiss university safeguards mission-critical academic operations with cyber resilient, unified data infrastructure from Hitachi Vantara.

Swiss university safeguards mission-critical academic operations with cyber resilient, unified data infrastructure from Hitachi Vantara. FHNW relies on Hitachi Vantara block and object storage for up to 4x faster ransomware-resistant backups and cyber recovery in minutes instead of days, saving 40% in cost and energy consumption. SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 25, 2026 - Hitachi Vantara, the data storage, infrastructure and hybrid cloud management subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501), today announced that the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) is modernizing its IT infrastructure with a hybrid cloud solution from Hitachi Vantara. In collaboration with Swiss IT service provider Sonio AG, the university implemented an integrated block and object storage architecture that seamlessly connects on-premises systems and cloud services, while delivering maximum data resilience against cyber threats. With more than 14,000 students, 3,200 employees, and 57 bachelor's and master's programs, FHNW is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Switzerland and depends on reliable, fast, and secure access to data. Today, the university protects over 1,100 virtual machines, approximately 350 TB of data, and more than 150 TB of M365 cloud data. With support from Hitachi Vantara, FHNW is experiencing backup transfers that are now up to 4x faster, and ransomware-resilient recovery operations that previously took days can now be completed in minutes. "Data sits at the heart of our teaching, research, and administrative operations," said Patrick Gebhard, System Engineer Data Center at FHNW. "Restoring deleted data used to be a long, manual process tied to short retention time on disk and an inefficient way to copy restore points. Now we can recover the right data within minutes during interactive support sessions with our users. The experience is faster, smoother, and significantly improves service quality and user satisfaction." Predictable Business Continuity and Protection Against Cyber Threats The solution combines a Veeam Backup & Recovery solution with Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) block storage arrays as primary backup repositories. By leveraging Veeam's Copy Job functionality, backup data is written directly to an object storage solution with Object Lock enabled, enforcing immutability for a 30-day retention period. This means that once a backup is written, it cannot be modified, encrypted, or deleted - by anyone - until the retention window expires. This architecture delivers a fully cyber-resilient backup copy strategy, purpose-built for archiving and long-term recoverability and ensures the availability of teaching, research, and administrative operations in the event of cyber incidents or other disruptions. In addition, the efficient primary backup storage solution reduces cost and power consumption by 40% - a significant contribution to FHNW's sustainability goals. FHNW was also able to operate its backup infrastructure with 40% fewer tape drives. At the heart of a modern, hybrid cloud data foundation is Hitachi Vantara's Virtual Storage Platform One (VSP One), a unified data storage platform designed for high performance, AI-driven data management and cyber resilience, including a 100% data availability guarantee. It features a single data plane and includes block, file, and object storage solutions. Michael Roth, General Manager Switzerland at Hitachi Vantara, said, "Object storage, such as VSP One Object, is increasingly becoming the foundation of modern IT infrastructures - not only for backups, but also for AI workloads and data analysis. By partnering with Hitachi Vantara, FHNW has built a scalable data foundation that can grow with its requirements." Protection against cyber threats "With the Hitachi Vantara storage solution developed by our partner Sonio, we can finally follow backup best practices such as the 3-2-1 rule," summarizes Gebhard. "All in all, we benefit from faster backup performance and improved resilience against cyber threats and other security risks." Sasa Gržinić, Head of Marketing & Partner Management at Sonio AG, adds: "With our comprehensive expertise in cloud and data solutions, we understood exactly what FHNW needed. Hitachi Vantara object storage provides the university with new object storage capabilities to optimize and standardize operations and helps the IT team adapt to changing regulatory requirements and innovate." Mexico's Grupo Financiero Banorte partners with Hitachi Vantara of data center migration

Mexico's Grupo Financiero Banorte partners with Hitachi Vantara of data center migration. Banorte moves from data center in Mexico City to Querétaro March 06, 2026 Mexican financial institution Grupo Financiero Banorte has partnered with Hitachi Vantara on a data center migration project. Banorte and Hitachi Vantara migrated the company from a data center in Mexico City to a facility in Querétaro, as well as upgrading Banorte's mainframe storage environment. According to Banorte, the migration was motivated by a desire to reduce the business risks associated with natural disasters and to "strengthen its digital foundation." It is unclear what natural disasters this refers to. Mexico City is at risk of river floods and earthquakes, according to Swiss Re. Querétaro was impacted by floods and landslides in October 2025, with eight municipalities in the Sierra Gorda region impacted. DCD has contacted Hitachi Vantara for clarification on how the new data center is better positioned to protect against such occurrences. Banorte was previously impacted by a data center outage in 2019. The data center was operated by Prosa, and located in Santa Fe, Mexico City. The data center migration saw Hitachi and Banorte migrating 450 terabytes of data in less than an hour. The new environment used by Banorte is supported by two mainframes and three interconnected Hitchachi storage arrays. Banorte is also now using Hitachi Vantara Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) systems and Hitachi Universal Replicator (HUR) technologies, and has reduced its transaction response time by 50 percent. "Our strategic goal is to turn ordinary banking services into something extraordinary. Our digital capabilities are crucial to drive this strategy, as they will allow us to deliver hyper-personalized customer experiences," said Delfin Ruiz, chief technology infrastructure officer, Banorte. "Hitachi Vantara is constantly evolving and improving their solutions, which in turn supports the growth of our own digital capabilities. We trust Hitachi's technology and people to deliver for Banorte for years to come." "We're proud to support Banorte's vision of delivering exceptional digital banking experiences to its customers," added Adrian Johnson, chief revenue officer, Hitachi Vantara. "This successful migration showcases how our enterprise storage and services teams work in lockstep with customers to modernize critical infrastructure, reduce operational risk, and prepare for future innovation." Details about the new data center selected have not been provided. DCD has reached out to Hitachi Vantara for more information. According to DataCenterMap, Queretaro has at least 18 data centers. Operators include KIO Networks, Ascenty, Odata, and CloudHQ. Grupo Financiero Banorte was founded in 1899. Today, the bank operates more than 1,200 branches, around 7,300 ATMs, and 5,200 retail stores. The bank is also a known customer of Microsoft. More in enterprise.
