Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in healthcare or a closely related field is required.
  • Five years of clinical or medical legal experience are required, including three years of supervisory experience and two years of risk management experience.
  • Advanced personal computer literacy is required.
  • The incumbent must demonstrate all competencies required by Florida Statute.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the administration of the risk management plan for assigned areas, driving strategic initiatives that reduce organizational risk and enhance patient safety.
  • Coordinate and lead complex risk management projects with cross-departmental impact, ensuring effective collaboration and measurable outcomes.
  • Conduct advanced data analytics to identify emerging risk trends, inform decision-making, and recommend targeted interventions.
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate educational programs that empower staff to proactively mitigate risk and reduce liability exposure.
  • Develop and refine risk management policies and procedures in alignment with evolving regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Represent Orlando Health in high-level interactions with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with risk management standards established by The Joint Commission and other accrediting agencies.
  • Provide expert guidance to physicians, nurses, and staff on complex professional liability and facility-related matters.
  • Receive and investigate reports of product problems and ensure appropriate responses to federal, state, and manufacturer reporting requirements.
  • Champion transparent disclosure processes for medical errors.
  • Facilitate and oversee root cause analysis investigations and reporting of adverse events.
  • Ensure compliance with codes, laws, regulations, and incident-reporting requirements concerning patient care, including investigations involving federal, state, and local enforcement authorities.
  • Work with the executive team to implement risk and safety initiatives.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with organizational policies and applicable federal, state, and local standards.
  • Implement facility- or area-wide systems for risk identification, investigation, and reduction using informational sources and subject matter experts.
  • Conduct proactive risk surveys and inspections of patient care areas and provide recommendations to minimize loss potential and enhance safety.
  • Analyze operational and clinical processes to identify opportunities for risk mitigation and process improvement.
  • Mentor and develop new risk management staff.
  • Participate in committees and task forces focused on patient safety, risk reduction, and compliance.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments related to healthcare risk management and communicate relevant updates to stakeholders.
  • Aggregate and analyze data on patient injuries, incident trends, and sentinel events and maintain statistical records.
  • Advise administrators and department managers on risk management findings and recommendations and support department-specific risk management programs.
  • Provide expert support during on-call responsibilities, including guidance and escalation for clinical risk management services.
  • Cross-train in multiple areas of risk management to provide coverage and support for other risk manager roles.
  • Lead and participate in organizational projects that drive innovation and continuous improvement in risk management practices.
  • Deliver in-service training to hospital personnel on reducing facility or assigned-area liability exposure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
