Springfield's International Motors plant will be sold to Canadian defence and commercial vehicle manufacturer Roshel this autumn. The companies signed an asset purchase agreement on Monday for Roshel to acquire the facility's operating assets. The 2 million square foot Springfield facility, located on 500 acres, will become a hub for US-based production of commercial, special and armoured vehicles. The sale follows the expiration of International's contract manufacturing agreement with a major automotive company on 30 September. Roshel plans to utilise the plant's full assembly line and paint booth to expand production of vehicles built on chassis from major OEMs and customised for specific operational needs. International employs over 1,800 workers at the Springfield facility. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions.
