Requirements
  • High school graduate or General Education Development credential.
  • No prior experience is necessary.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and general computer functions.
  • Access to a phone at all times.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to meet the stated physical demands, including frequent standing, walking, handling, reaching, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling, with occasional lifting over 100 pounds.
  • Ability to hear emergency sounds and intercoms and use required personal protective equipment, including back belts when lifting or handling heavy products.
  • Subject to pre-employment background and drug screening.
Responsibilities
  • Provide customer service by greeting and assisting customers and responding professionally to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Monitor sales activities to ensure satisfactory customer service and quality goods.
  • Assign employees to specific duties.
  • Direct and supervise employees engaged in sales, inventory-taking, cash-receipt reconciliation, and customer services.
  • Inventory stock and reorder merchandise when inventory reaches specified levels.
  • Maintain records of purchases, sales, and requisitions.
  • Enforce safety, health, and security rules.
  • Inspect products received for storage or purchased for resale to assess their condition.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, promote, or fire personnel when appropriate.
  • Perform subordinate work, including cleaning and organizing shelves and displays and selling merchandise.
  • Establish and implement departmental policies, goals, objectives, and procedures.
  • Instruct staff on handling difficult and complicated sales.
  • Formulate merchandise pricing policies based on profitability requirements.
  • Estimate consumer demand and determine the types and quantities of goods to sell.
  • Inspect merchandise to ensure correct pricing, display, and advertised functionality.
  • Plan work schedules and maintain employee schedule and time-card records.
  • Review inventory and sales records and prepare reports for management and budget departments.
  • Observe scheduled shift hours.
  • Work with company officials to develop methods for increasing sales, expanding markets, and promoting the business.
  • Plan budgets and authorize payments and merchandise returns.
  • Comply with city, county, state, and federal regulations.
  • Operate the shift within company guidelines to achieve sales and profit objectives.
  • Assist the store manager with employee measurement, evaluation, corrective action, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, demotion, and termination.
  • Assist the store manager with employee policy compliance, productivity, scheduling, development, communication, and supervision.
  • Assist the store manager with sales, profit, expense, inventory, merchandise-display, loss-prevention, customer-complaint, and store-maintenance objectives.
  • Record hours worked and verify time records.
  • Record sales at the time of purchase.
  • Record markups, markdowns, spoilage, and store use of merchandise according to company policy.
  • In the store manager’s absence, organize, calculate, and submit daily sales information to the corporate office.
  • Assist with accurate payroll closeout so employees are paid correctly and on time.
  • In the store manager’s absence, prepare or ensure completion of end-of-week and end-of-year reports.
  • Advise the store manager or supervisor of personnel situations and policy violations affecting store operations.
  • Maintain employee warning notices and performance records.
  • Share responsibility for controlling store inventory.
  • Notify the store manager or supervisor if the daily bank deposit is not made.
  • Maintain a low cash drawer and use the safe according to company instructions.
  • Complete shift-checkout reports at required times.
  • Enforce vendor check-in procedures.
  • Keep the safe locked at all times.
  • Keep coolers, shelves, and displays full and fronted.
  • Clean and maintain store equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain perishable foods according to company standards.
  • Order and maintain merchandise to prevent out-of-stocks.
  • Build and maintain sellable merchandise displays.
  • Clean the parking lot and surrounding grounds.
  • Sweep and mop floors, dust shelves, and move trash containers to the outside bin.
  • Unload stock trucks.
  • Complete other tasks assigned by the store manager or assistant manager.
