  • Hands-on experience managing a business-development pipeline, including building schemas, dashboards, and workflows and holding a team accountable for using them.
  • Strong project-management instincts and the ability to drive complex, multi-stakeholder processes, such as proposals, mergers and acquisitions diligence, or large commercial deals, to an on-time result.
  • Strong financial and analytical fluency, including comfort with Excel, scenario and win-rate analyses, pipeline-health analysis, and forecast-accuracy analysis.
  • Ability to draft proposals, briefing memoranda, customer-facing materials, and investor updates for senior stakeholders.

  • Experience at a high-growth startup, ideally as one of the first go-to-market or operations hires.
Responsibilities
  • Qualify and prioritize opportunities across federal, national laboratory, and commercial customers; drive weekly pipeline reviews; and hold the team accountable to deal milestones and timelines.
  • Coordinate with external lobbyists and policy advisors, track legislative and regulatory activity relevant to biodefense and biosecurity, prepare briefing materials for congressional and agency meetings, and help shape and source funding for new biodefense programs.
  • Attend conferences, industry events, and customer meetings; build and maintain relationships with program managers, contracting officers, and commercial counterparts; and report actionable findings to the team.
  • Project-manage Small Business Innovation Research, Small Business Technology Transfer, Other Transaction Authority, Broad Agency Announcement, and commercial responses through proposals, contracts, procurement, submission, and follow-through.
  • Document successful and unsuccessful approaches, turn wins and losses into reusable patterns, and improve the growth playbook for successive deals.
  • Partner with Forward Deployed Engineers and product to align offerings and deliveries and close the feedback loop between customers and the product roadmap.
  • Run meeting schedules, manage calendars and agendas, drive weekly team-wide updates and all-hands meetings, and capture and follow through on decisions, owners, and next steps.
  • Handle generalist operations work as needed, including investor-diligence support, events, internal offsites, facilities emergencies, and other work required to keep the team moving.

Valthos builds an AI-powered biosurveillance platform that aggregates data from air and wastewater monitoring, genomic sequencing, and public sources to detect emerging biological threats in real time. The system uses frontier AI to rapidly characterize biological sequences, identify anomalies, and speed up the design and deployment of medical countermeasures. Its leadership blends veterans from Palantir, Google DeepMind, Stanford’s Arc Institute, and MIT’s Broad Institute, combining data integration with life-sciences expertise to pursue proactive biodefense. The goal is to close the biodefense advantage by making threat detection and countermeasure development fast, data-driven, and adaptive through government contracts, public health programs, and defense licensing.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • $30 million seed funding supports infrastructure scaling and hiring.
  • Government biodefense needs faster threat detection and countermeasure design.
  • Wastewater and biosurveillance data integration can create strong partner demand.

What critics are saying

  • No cited federal procurements, pilots, or contracts validate government traction.
  • DoD buyers require IL5 and FedRAMP High authorization for sensitive workloads.
  • False positives or negatives could quickly destroy trust in biodefense deployments.

What makes Valthos unique

  • Frontier AI for real-time biodefense, not traditional static surveillance.
  • Targets government and life sciences stakeholders with adaptive countermeasure software.
  • Founded by Palantir, DeepMind, Broad, Arc, and Lux veterans.
