Requirements
  • Verbal and written communication skills to communicate strategies with senior leadership, actively listen, change others' thinking, and gain acceptance.
  • Travel between procurement office and medical center locations, with other travel up to 10%.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address issues without precedent and develop creative alternatives.
  • Ability to set goals and manage implementation processes for initiatives while managing multiple priorities.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to anticipate problems and implement resolutions in a complex environment.
  • Skills to forecast talent needs and encourage leadership development for succession planning.
  • The position is subject to the California DMV Pull Notice System, and continued employment requires proof of a satisfactory driving record.
  • Knowledge of procurement practices and procedures, including RFP, RFI, and RFQ processes, strategic vendor sourcing, and negotiation techniques.
  • At least five years of experience managing organization-wide supply chain activities, including procurement, inventory control, and purchasing.
  • Interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships with all staff levels and coordinate supply chain activities across functions.
  • In-depth knowledge of current materials management best practices and systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of purchasing, inventory systems and controls, and accounting.
  • Expert Excel skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant internal policies, external regulations, and best practices.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience or training.
  • Advanced skills using enterprise resource planning and financial systems such as Oracle, PeopleSoft, or SAP.
  • Advanced skills organizing, simplifying, and increasing the efficiency of processes and procedures while maintaining standards and compliance.
  • Ability to interpret data and make organizational decisions using data, including burn rate, utilization, and forecasting.
  • Ability to provide proof of legal authorization to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the materials management system throughout the medical center or health system, including procurement, processing, and distribution of materials and services.
  • Ensure the efficient and cost-effective acquisition of equipment and supplies throughout the medical center or health system.
  • Manage operations of a materials management unit, implement systems, analyze data, and ensure compliance.
  • Manage staff using materials management techniques to maintain supplies.
  • Establish departmental goals and objectives and function with autonomy.
  • Manage human, financial, and physical resources in accordance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Ensure subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls.
  • Manage systems and procedures to protect departmental assets.
  • Safeguard sensitive employee, student, health, patient, financial, strategic, proprietary, and other confidential information.
  • Follow organizational policies and laws on data protection and privacy, including secure handling of physical and digital records and proper use of information technology systems.
