Requirements
  • A J.D. degree from an American Bar Association-accredited law school, bar admission, and a good academic record are required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a large corporate setting are required; in-house experience is preferred but not required.
  • Significant experience with commercial lease transactions and contract administration is required.
  • Experience drafting and reviewing commercial leases and corporate legal instruments, including filing with state and federal agencies, is required.
  • Experience working in a commercial, retail environment is required.
  • The role requires the ability to handle multiple transactions simultaneously and manage ongoing projects to meet deadlines.
  • The role requires strong data and internet research skills, written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving ability, prioritization, judgment, discretion, confidentiality, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • The role requires proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access, as well as database management and record keeping.
  • The role requires the ability to read, comprehend, and interpret complex and detailed documents in English.
Responsibilities
  • Draft, negotiate, manage, and advise business teams regarding commercial leases, SNDA agreements, commercial lease amendments, memorandums of lease, complex services contracts, and other commercial agreements.
  • Manage real estate transactions in coordination with the Site Development department and operations partners.
  • Prepare legal documents by identifying forms, formatting documents, developing language, and proofreading materials for Real Estate review and approval.
  • Maintain deadlines and generate status reports.
  • Interact with organizational management, internal clients, and outside counsel.
  • Identify and manage relationships with external law firms providing specialist advice.
  • Research, anticipate, and provide guidance to limit the organization's legal risks.
  • Manage external law firms defending and prosecuting lawsuits and arbitrations.
  • Develop litigation strategies.
  • Advise management and counsel business units on the legal implications of proposed actions and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of experience as in-house counsel in a large corporate setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Workshare Professional or a similar legal document management system is preferred.
