Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology is required, subject to modification if minimum Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments requirements are met.
  • No prior experience is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and complex laboratory tests and procedures to generate data used in disease treatment.
  • Perform quality control and related clerical tasks, including EMMES data entry, patient laboratory file reviews, and completion of CIBMTR forms.
  • Perform quality control on the Sysmex hematology analyzer.
  • Thaw cellular products at 37°C in the stem cell laboratory and inpatient units.
  • Perform viability testing using trypan blue or an automated method.
  • Perform ABO/Rh confirmatory testing of cellular products.
  • Perform sterility testing of cellular products before and/or after processing.
  • Perform Dextran Albumin thawing of cellular products.
  • Cryopreserve cellular products, including HPC apheresis, HPC marrow, HPC cord blood, and MNC apheresis products.
  • Perform CD34+ and CD56+ selection and depletion procedures.
  • Process outgoing NMDP products, including CIBMTR data entry.
  • Process incoming NMDP products for infusion.
  • Process fresh allogeneic products for cryopreservation and infusion.
  • Process fresh autologous products for cryopreservation and infusion.
  • Dispose of and document cellular products approved for discard.
  • Work with liquid nitrogen freezers.
  • Complete STCL EMMES database data entry.
  • Use EPIC for clinical medical-record activities.
  • Review laboratory batch-record files.
  • Complete quality-control worksheets daily, weekly, and monthly.
  • File laboratory results in designated secured file cabinets.
  • Complete CIBMTR data forms for outgoing NMDP products to meet deadlines.
  • Process and test incoming NMDP products for infusion.
  • Process and test fresh allogeneic products for infusion.
  • Operate laboratory equipment including biological safety cabinets, water baths, hematology and microbiology analyzers, refrigerators, freezers, controlled-rate freezing chambers, centrifuges, microscopes, cell counters, and cellular-product processing systems.
Desired Qualifications
  • Stem cell or blood bank experience is strongly preferred.
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology certification is strongly preferred.
