Requirements
  • PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, molecular and cell biology, structural biology or related field and 3+ years of relevant industry experience or MS with 6+ years additional industry experience
  • Experience with current protein production methods, techniques, and equipment (e.g., affinity, ion exchange and SEC)
  • Demonstrated track record of generating high-quality recombinant protein for structural biology, biophysics or assay development in a timely manner
  • Background in biophysical methods of protein characterization; experience with surface plasmon resonance or bio-layer interferometry is preferred
  • Working knowledge of mammalian expression systems and E. coli
  • Familiarity with antibody engineering and production
  • Prior industry experience required
Responsibilities
  • Plan the protein production workflow for the generation of antigens, antibodies (various formats), and other proteins in collaboration with project teams
  • Perform all relevant steps of the gene-to-protein process, including construct design, expression, purification, and biochemical/biophysical protein characterization
  • Evaluate target feasibility through research of existing information, such as publications, patents, structures, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize expression and purification processes
  • Design and perform biophysical assays to characterize proteins, especially kinetic binding assays (SPR and BLI); and analyze, interpret, and communicate results
  • Perform post-purification modifications such as biotinylation, probe conjugation, etc.
  • Manage CROs for gene synthesis, protein production and other tasks as required
  • Represent the Structural Biology and Protein Sciences group and make key contributions in project teams
  • Maintain a current understanding of relevant literature, methodologies and technologies related to protein chemistry as well as to specific drug discovery projects
  • Present results internally and externally
  • Possibility of managing direct reports
