  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider certification from the American Heart Association
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the Missouri Division of Professional Registration or Registered Nurse license issued by a Compact State
  • Work shift is Day Shift
  • Must be able to work a schedule of 36 hours per week
Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessment and reassessment including age-appropriate admission assessment or transfer assessment and input from family or guardian when appropriate; document findings accurately and completely; assess post-operative and post-invasive procedure patients; assess and document education and discharge needs of patient and family on admission and throughout hospitalization; provide patient reassessment per the patient plan of care, changes in condition, status and/or diagnosis, response to care, procedures, and standards of care
  • Establish, coordinate, and evaluate a plan of care based on analysis of assessment data, patient diagnosis, laboratory data, tests, procedures, physician orders, protocols, and standards of care; identify short and long-term goals; formulate nursing interventions to achieve outcomes; incorporate disease-specific evidence-based practice into the nursing care plan and documentation
  • Provide and document nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, plan of care, and changes in patient status; collaborate with health team members for coordination of daily plan of care; provide, coordinate, and communicate patient care including accurate handoff reports; administer and document medications according to policies and procedures; monitor and document accurate intravenous fluids and parenteral nutrition; complete referrals; request consultations; provide patient and family education and discharge planning per documentation guidelines; clarify physician orders and implement them accurately and timely; assist physicians with procedures or delegate to the appropriate team member; document readbacks for all telephone/verbal orders; take telephone/verbal orders only in emergency situations; recognize changes in patient condition and take appropriate nursing actions; involve family/guardian in care and decision-making as appropriate; recognize risks to patient and take action; incorporate infection control practices
  • Document and communicate nursing care and changes in patient condition; perform and document ongoing evaluation of effectiveness of care based on assessment data, nursing interventions, patient response to medications, treatments and procedures; evaluate and document effectiveness of patient and family education; evaluate plan of care and modify as indicated; recognize significant changes in clinical parameters and report immediately; identify problems, gather data, suggest solutions, and communicate to resolve; report variations from care following occurrence reporting policy and procedures
  • Specialized care: provide care to patients at high risk for injury including restraint care with alternatives to restraints, apply restraints per approved procedure, monitor patient response during restraint, provide timely patient care (toileting, skin care, hydration, feeding), provide consultation for peers to determine alternatives to restraints and 1:1 observation, document restraint use and care; Pain Management: assess pain on admission and during assessments, incorporate cultural/spiritual beliefs, implement pain management techniques with prevention focus, involve patient/family in plan, consider other methods such as massage, repositioning, immobilization, music therapy; Abuse Assessment: recognize abuse criteria, report signs of possible abuse or neglect to appropriate authorities, take action to support patient safety
  • Demonstrate accountability for own professional practice: adhere to quality and performance standards, participate in learning experiences, maintain currency in hospital/unit information and procedures; participate in committees and governance; maintain up-to-date policies; adapt to changing work demands; orient/precept new employees; function as a resource and delegate appropriately; communicate plan of care clearly; supervise and teach students/new staff
  • Safety/Infection Control: follow safety and infection control policies; practice standard precautions; maintain safe and clean environment; hand hygiene; safe patient handling; minimize distractions; adhere to dress code; report risk management concerns; complete annual mandatory requirements including licensure and certifications, training, and competency; report variations from care following policy
  • Service: deliver care in a courteous and respectful manner; meet physical, spiritual, psychological, and emotional needs of patients and families; communicate effectively while maintaining confidentiality; provide accurate handoff reports; contribute to efficiency and continuity of care; ensure customer satisfaction using hospital principles and commitments
  • Performance Improvement and Evidenced-Based Practice: assist in developing unit goals; stay current with evidenced-based practice; identify opportunities for improvement and participate in data collection and problem resolution; participate in performance improvement processes; participate in nursing research and department/hospital improvement activities; participate in occurrence reviews and contribute to nursing quality indicators
  • Age-Appropriate Care: provide age-appropriate care for adults and geriatrics; demonstrate knowledge of growth and development; assess and interpret age-specific data; involve family in decision-making; provide services for age groups routinely served by the department
