Requirements
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • Four years of relevant experience consulting with academic and administrative clients in a desktop computing environment is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with hardware and software deployment tools, including Deployment Workbench, Munki, AutoPKG, and DeployStudio.
  • Experience with TCP/IP networking.
  • Experience writing technical and training documentation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server management and Active Directory.
  • Experience supporting phone and tablet devices, including iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile.
  • Familiarity with Linux and shell scripting.
  • Experience training users individually or in a class setting.
  • Experience using help desk service-tracking software.
  • Knowledge of music applications such as Sibelius, Finale, or Audacity.
  • Knowledge of complex IT infrastructure and networking systems, including how the seven OSI models communicate with one another.
  • Ability to listen, understand, explain, and build effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, with clients, and independently.
Responsibilities
  • Manage authentication, authorization, and access for all networks, drives, and systems.
  • Organize and lead investigations into faculty and staff software-related requests, including operating systems, mobile devices, internet applications, office productivity applications, media applications, and other applications as necessary.
  • Manage functional network connectivity, backup software, licensing activation, and printing needs.
  • Restore data from backups to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Assign appropriate permissions to access department resources.
  • Support users in person, through Zoom, by phone, and through remote tools.
  • Manage annual hardware refreshes for an approximately 450-computer fleet on a five-year refresh cycle.
  • Use migration tools to transfer user data reliably to new hardware.
  • Initiate and manage IT projects, including system migrations, integration with University IT services, and publishing workflow and training documentation.
  • Attend Technology and Media Production, Eastman Computing Services, and University IT ARC meetings on a biweekly or monthly basis.
  • Organize and lead investigations into faculty and staff hardware-related problems, including computers, monitors, printers, input devices, mobile devices, and other hardware.
  • Manage implementation of new computers using Mac and Windows operating systems, associated management tools, software applications, and University IT standards.
  • Collaborate with departments and users to recommend and find solutions based on business requirements.
  • Research, develop, design, test, and implement new computer, software, and peripheral resources based on user business requirements.
  • Recommend strategies for smart classroom, lab, and library IT solutions in collaboration with the Educational Technology Coordinator.
  • Inform and support new interactive and distance learning initiatives.
  • Liaise with University IT to maintain a robust and secure network infrastructure that protects systems from hackers, viruses, and malware.
  • Manage the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of computer systems and data by researching and implementing firewalls and antivirus software.
  • Maintain consistent practices for security, authentication, and other policy matters.
  • Provide individual and group training on operating systems and administrative, creative, and teaching applications.
  • Create written tutorials in the University system Confluence and ticket system, and provide tutorial links or individual instruction.
  • Keep current with trends and technology through internet research, magazines, and conferences to recommend appropriate academic and administrative computing strategies.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience or certification is preferred.
  • Experience with source-code control systems is preferred.
