Requirements
  • At least 10 years of experience in digital design and micro-architecture, including lead ownership of a high-throughput datapath or Serializer/Deserializer-adjacent system-on-chip.
  • Experience designing the datapath of a network switch, network interface card, or memory controller at a major XPU or fabric vendor, or an equivalent high-throughput, high-reliability datapath.
  • Understanding of scale-up and scale-out interconnect architectures and their bandwidth and latency trade-offs.
  • Strong SystemVerilog register-transfer-level skills and timing-aware micro-architecture experience at multi-hundred-gigabits-per-second aggregate rates, with clock-domain-crossing discipline.
  • Working knowledge of UCIe, PCIe, and CXL datapath concepts and high-speed lane alignment and deskew.
  • Ownership of front-end design methodology, including lint and clock-domain-crossing or reset-domain-crossing signoff, clocking and reset architecture, design-for-test, and collaboration on physical closure.
  • Experience translating system requirements into an implementable and verifiable architecture specification.
Responsibilities
  • Own verification end to end for a first-of-its-kind chiplet and define the verification methodology, coverage strategy, and regression infrastructure before register-transfer-level code exists.
  • Define the digital front-end micro-architecture and architecture specification implemented by the design team.
  • Own front-end micro-architecture and block partitioning.
  • Establish front-end design methodology and quality practices, including register-transfer-level coding standards, lint, clock-domain-crossing and reset-domain-crossing signoff, and clean-register-transfer-level policy.
  • Own the high-speed datapath, including per-lane alignment and deskew, multiplexing, the UCIe streaming or RDI adapter, elastic first-in-first-out buffers, and custom logic.
  • Own transport and link framing, mapping, and adaptation logic.
  • Develop timing- and floorplan-aware micro-architecture, including pipelining, retiming, and partitioning for physical closure at multi-hundred-gigabits-per-second rates with the backend team.
  • Own clocking, reset, and low-power architecture, including clock and reset domains, gating strategy, and Unified Power Format power intent.
  • Establish designer-level verification through block-level testbenches, sanity checks, and SystemVerilog Assertions coverage before handoff to design verification.
  • Own architectural design-for-test and debug provisioning, including scan-friendly structure and on-die observability and controllability, with the design-for-test and design-verification leads.
  • Own intellectual-property integration, interface and register conventions, and parameterization for configurability across lane counts and configurations.
  • Make architectural trade-offs with the modelling lead on latency, buffering, datapath sampling, and observability, and with the design-verification lead on verifiability and debug.
  • Lead, grow, and mentor the front-end design team as the group scales across datapath, interfaces, and integration.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with UCIe, PCIe, CXL, or CHI interface architecture and die-to-die or chiplet technology.
  • Familiarity with forward error correction or coding datapaths, such as Reed-Solomon, and gray-code mapping.
  • Background in optical transceivers, co-packaged optics, or linear-drive optics.
  • Experience with advanced-node N5, N3, or N2 design.

Lumilens develops high-speed photonic interconnects for AI data centers, providing optical transceivers and packaging that connect compute across scale-out clusters and scale-up GPU-to-GPU links. Its products include silicon-photonics-based 800GbE DR8 and 2x400GbE FR4 transceivers, using advanced packaging such as near-packaged and co-packaged optics. The company designs its own silicon and uses AI-optimized automated manufacturing to boost yield and ensure supply continuity across global facilities. Lumilens aims to enable massive AI compute growth by delivering scalable optical interconnects that outperform traditional electrical links and legacy optics, while addressing evolving geopolitical requirements.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • AI datacenter bottlenecks make 800G and 1.6T optical interconnects urgent.
  • POET's $500 million supply agreement signals substantial commercial demand.
  • Thailand manufacturing and San Jose design support cost, talent, and supply continuity.

What critics are saying

  • Broadcom and Marvell already dominate hyperscaler interconnect qualification and trust.
  • POET supply or yield failures directly delay Lumilens shipments and customer ramps.
  • Thermal, packaging, and reliability defects in co-packaged optics can kill flagship deployments.

What makes Lumilens unique

  • Lumilens pairs in-house silicon photonics with automated manufacturing and robotics.
  • It targets both scale-out and scale-up AI interconnect architectures.
  • The company claims only photonics vendor enabling cluster-to-cluster and direct GPU-to-GPU links.
