Requirements

  • Applicants must have an experienced systems engineering background with a strong track record in system architecture, requirements decomposition, and delivery in safety- or mission-critical environments.

  • Applicants must have a strong grounding in closed-loop control theory applied to high-speed flight, guidance, and defence or military systems.

  • Applicants must have experience taking systems through early design gates, including Kick-off and Preliminary Design Review.
  • Applicants must be able to reason about system behaviours, interfaces, and failure modes rather than isolated components.

  • Applicants must be technically credible across disciplines and able to challenge assumptions and close decisions.
Responsibilities
  • Own the system architecture and system model for high-speed flight vehicles, ensuring mission intent, vehicle dynamics, avionics, and Guidance, Navigation, and Control form a coherent, verifiable whole.
  • Lead aerospace systems architecture design and take responsibility for how the vehicle is defined across disciplines from early concept through Preliminary Design Review and beyond.
  • Build and maintain the authoritative system requirements model, decomposing mission-level objectives into clear, testable system and subsystem requirements.
  • Define and own the end-to-end system V-model, including requirements validation, verification strategy, and readiness gates for Kick-off and Preliminary Design Review.
  • Apply model-based systems engineering to ensure traceability between requirements, models, analyses, and tests.
  • Develop and deliver a six-degree-of-freedom Guidance, Navigation, and Control model to Preliminary Design Review standard in collaboration with flight physics and avionics engineers.
  • Apply closed-loop control theory in high-speed flight and military guidance to assess controllability, stability, and performance at the system level.
  • Integrate vehicle dynamics, control laws, sensors, and actuators into a coherent closed-loop system representation.
  • Identify system-level risks, particularly requirements gaps, controllability, observability, and verification risks, and drive mitigations.
  • Act as a technical authority across disciplines and keep architectural decisions coherent as designs evolve.

Munich's Hypersonica raises €23.3M Series A, tests hypersonic missile at Mach 6

Munich-based hypersonic systems startup Hypersonica has emerged from stealth with a €23.3 million Series A funding round led by Plural and a successful test launch. Founded in December 2023, the company is developing Europe's first privately funded hypersonic strike capability. On 3 February, Hypersonica launched a missile prototype from Andøya Space in Norway, reaching speeds exceeding Mach 6 and a range over 300 kilometres. The company completed the vehicle's development in just nine months. The Series A round included participation from Germany's Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovation, General Catalyst and 201 Ventures. Hypersonica aims to deliver an initial short-range hypersonic strike capability by 2027 and fully operational hypersonic glide vehicles by 2029, targeting NATO member states' defence requirements.
