SUMMARY:
The Managing Director I of Marketing is the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for Nelnet Business Services and leads all aspects of the marketing functions for the division. The CMO is a strategic member of the senior management team and partner to other marketing and communication heads across the enterprise. This position oversees all marketing operations of the business unit and executes on the domestic and global marketing vision for each business vertical to achieve short- and long-term business goals. This position also drives brand identity and awareness, brand and product positioning and messaging, demand generation, and customer success marketing initiatives. The CMO leads a full-stack marketing team, including performance marketing, brand and content marketing, creative services, marketing technology, events, and customer communications. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and contributes to the strategic framework and decision making for our long-term growth strategy.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and motivate a high-performance B2B2C (business to business to consumer) Marketing Team across brand, creative, digital, content, demand generation, and customer success marketing functions, as well as customer communication and, event management.
·Coach team members to be accountable and maximize their effectiveness with specific goals and measurable KPIs.
·Design and scale a marketing program that can meet the demand of a multi-million-dollar business, with continuous expansion into new verticals and international markets through innovation and acquisition.
·Guide the development of integrated marketing plans by market and vertical, including strategies and tactics that increase brand awareness, relevancy, and generate demand.
·Partner with Nelnet’s corporate marketing and communications team to leverage centralized resources.
·Collaborate effectively with sales and product leaders to ensure that pipeline and revenue goals are met and exceeded on a consistent basis.
·Inspire a customer-first mindset focused on core values, leveraging data analytics and marketing technology, to improve digital customer experiences that help us acquire and retain valuable customers and create internal efficiencies.
·Operate a robust, integrated marketing technology stack and prioritize marketing technology projects to conduct and optimize customer and associate activities and business automation, and measure performance.
·Manage seven figure budget, coaching marketing leaders on allocating dollars appropriately across marketing technology, content creation, conferences, paid advertising, partnerships, PR, agency fees, etc., with a goal to maximize spend effectiveness.
·Align leaders internally around brand and cross-marketing objectives, forming strong partnerships across the division and enterprise, to achieve business goals.
·Clearly measure and report on the progress of marketing and engagement goals, KPIs, and the impact of marketing efforts.
·Stay on top of current marketing practices, and implement test-and-learn initiatives, to identify new strategies that can drive sales, create efficiencies, and have positive customer impact.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (marketing or business preferred).
EXPERIENCE:
15+ years in marketing, with minimum of 5 years at a senior leader level (managing large teams, complex brand/distribution environments).
Strong people leadership experience focused on professional development of associates.
B2B (business to business), payments, and SaaS (software as a service) experience preferred.
Experience building and managing diverse teams across the full-stack marketing and communications domain including growth, demand gen, brand, content and product marketing, creative, customer success, sales enablement, and marketing technology.
Strategic experience managing brand and B2B omni-channel marketing strategies with significant experience connecting those strategies to business results and long-term growth.

Experience with CRM, marketing automation, event management, project management, community, web analytics, artificial intelligence, and creative platforms.
The compensation range for this role is $150,000 to $200,000.
