If so, join our growing Underwriting Innovation Team as Senior Data Engineer to help us accelerate our digital transformation. We are looking for a data expert who will be instrumental in building innovative, cutting-edge platforms for advanced data processing and analytics. You’ll help senior department leadership drive the transformation of a traditionally paper-based business by re-imagining underwriting as a digital experience, thinking through both the underwriter’s and customer’s lenses. You will collaborate on a cross-functional team of product managers, user researchers, designers, engineers, and other professionals to create applications that our users love to use.
*** Candidates will need to be local to Southern California and will get to work out of First American’s Corporate HQ’s in Santa Ana, CA for 2-3 days a week. Remote work possible for exceptional candidates. ***
What You’ll Do:
- As a data expert, we will be asking you how to do things, as opposed to telling you how. Bring your strong sense of initiative, ownership, and collaboration.
- Be part of the innovation team working on cutting-edge platforms for advanced data processing and analytics.
- Create high-quality, maintainable, and secure data solutions.
- Collaborate on a cross-functional team of product managers, user researchers, designers, engineers, and other professionals to create applications that our users love to use.
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements. Automate manual processes, optimize data delivery, re-design infrastructure for greater scalability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of data issues.
What You’ll Bring:
- Strong sense of initiative, ownership, and collaboration.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in both SQL (relational) and NoSQL database technologies.
- Strong experience with ETL processes to ingest large amounts of data at regular intervals.
- Strong knowledge of database performance optimization techniques, such as clustered, non-clustered, spatial, full-text indexing, execution plans, etc.
- Demonstrated expertise in data modeling, database maintenance, monitoring, and performance tuning for both SQL (relational) and NoSQL databases.
- Exceptional analytical skills analyzing and validating large, complex data sets.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with precise documentation.
- Working knowledge of modern cloud computing technologies.
- Experience working with Agile SDLC methodology.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Skills:
- SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar relational database technology.
- MongoDB or similar NoSQL database technology. DynamoDB alone is generally insufficient.
- JavaScript/Node.js, Python, or similar scripting technology.
- AWS Cloud Services, including Application Load Balancer, CloudWatch, EC2, ElastiCache, IAM, KMS, Lambda, RDS, Secrets Manager, Step Functions, S3, Subnets, VPC, etc.
- CI/CD tools, Git, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, etc.
- Geospatial data knowledge, GeoJSON, Esri shapefiles.
- Working within a highly regulated industry such as Financial Services, Government, or Healthcare.
Salary Range: $87,900.00 - $182,700 Annually
This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
