Requirements
  • A degree in Plastics, Manufacturing, or another related engineering discipline with plastics experience.
  • Understanding of various plastic materials and rubbers, including medical-grade materials.
  • Practical experience with plastic molding, including scientific injection molding, mold design, micro-molding, compression or transfer molding, liquid injection molding, blow molding, and thermoforming techniques.
  • Understanding of component assembly from prototype through high-volume manufacturing, design of experiments, assembly fixture design, and assembly documentation including operations documentation, IQ/OQ/PQs, and process failure mode and effects analyses.
  • Practical experience with plastics assembly methods including ultrasonic welding, laser welding, and bonding techniques.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in an open group environment.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direction and input to the development team as a plastics expert.
  • Develop plastics assembly processes.
  • Transfer products to high-volume manufacturing.
  • Apply manufacturing-feasibility and design-for-manufacturing principles.
  • Select materials.
  • Develop prototypes.
  • Source and lead external suppliers for plastic injection molding, tooling, assembly equipment, and materials.
  • Work with internal and external manufacturing teams to develop robust manufacturing stations.

  • Familiarity with medical-device manufacturing requirements and testing for medical products.
