Requirements
  • Must be a high school graduate or have the equivalent.
  • Must be registered as a pharmacy technician in the State of Alabama by the start date.
  • Must become pharmacy technician certified through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board within six months of the job start date.
  • Must be able to operate a computer, calculator, telephone, transfer carts, and other related pharmacy equipment.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, reach, sit, crouch, and stoop for extended periods.
  • Must be able to carry objects weighing 35 pounds.
  • Must have good motor coordination and manual and finger dexterity.
  • Must be able to communicate with staff and patients of all ages.
  • Physical presence onsite is essential.
  • Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
  • Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and perform other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Provide patients with customer service by greeting them, offering assistance, and escalating concerns to the pharmacist when needed.
  • Enter patient and drug information into pharmacy systems, fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verify medicines, check for possible interactions, and assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
  • Register related sales on the assigned cash register, collect and handle cash, assist in locating products, handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention, process manual claims for third-party prescription services, and perform assigned clerical duties.
  • Support Pharmacy Department inventory management by ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; process invoices and notify the pharmacist of shortages.
  • Participate in the Med to Bed program by assisting discharging hospital patients in acquiring medications.
  • Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and follow company policies and procedures related to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards outlined in the performance evaluation.
  • Perform compliance requirements outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Use electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and the intranet.
  • Adhere to DCH Health System policies, procedures, and Behavioral Standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
