Requirements
  • The candidate should have a J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school and be an active member in good standing of a state bar.
  • The candidate should be able to work with clients to discuss difficult experiences and keep clients focused on key facts.
  • The candidate should be able to follow processes, work efficiently, and follow detailed directions.
  • The candidate should have computer skills, including typing and Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, document management with Dropbox, and email with Microsoft Outlook.
  • The candidate should support the mission of helping people currently living in America obtain their documents and stay together with their families.
Responsibilities
  • Review clients’ previously submitted immigration applications to understand key facts and potential roadblocks.
  • Meet with clients before their USCIS interviews to prepare them for the process and understand how to best present their stories.
  • Attend interviews with clients to defend and advocate for them.
  • Keep clear interview notes and document them in the case file.
  • Communicate with additional teams when supplements or additional work are necessary after the interview.
  • Participate on a team covering interviews across a region with multiple USCIS offices and travel regularly.
Desired Qualifications
  • A background in mock trial, moot court, depositions, and/or litigation is helpful.
  • Experience using a case management software system is preferred.
  • An interest in immigration law is preferred.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish skills are helpful, but not required, because translators will be provided.
