Requirements
  • The technologist must be qualified by education, training, and experience in the specialties or subspecialties in which they work.
  • The employee may be exposed to infectious materials and hazardous chemicals under the department’s Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • The employee must protect sensitive information, including HIPAA Protected Health Information, by accessing and disclosing only the minimum necessary information and preventing unauthorized access or modification.
Responsibilities
  • Perform testing on laboratory specimens accurately and timely to aid clinicians in detecting and diagnosing disease and monitoring illnesses or physician-initiated treatments.
  • Exercise independent judgment and responsibility with minimal supervision in qualified laboratory specialties or subspecialties.
  • Compile and report laboratory specimen results.
  • Document test results and quality control thoroughly, accurately, and legibly.
  • Use effective written and verbal communication to work cooperatively with customers and employees.
  • Perform maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Operate automated equipment and instruments, microscopes, cell counters, and other sophisticated laboratory equipment.
