Responsibilities
  • The Senior Cardio Catheterization Technician performs a variety of technical and supportive patient care tasks to assist physicians in performing complex invasive cardiac catheterization procedures and surgeries
  • Inserts small catheters through a needle into the blood vessels and into the heart so that x-rays, angiograms, and other recordings can be taken to determine the heart's structure and function
  • Ensures the EKG equipment is in good working order. Monitors the EKG readouts and keeps the doctor apprised of anything considered abnormal. Positions patients and explains procedures
  • Prepares the patients for the procedure by cleaning, shaving, and anesthetizing the area of insertion
  • Assists physicians during open-heart surgery and with the insertion of pacemakers or stents. Performs quality control functions
  • Prepares and sets up medical supplies using aseptic techniques
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets
