  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • For MA I, candidates must graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program, graduate from a Medical Assistant training program with externship, have one year of relevant healthcare experience with formal training such as Licensed Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or Combat Medic, or have one year of prior Medical Assistant experience.
  • For MA II, candidates must graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program, graduate from a Medical Assistant training program with externship, or have at least three years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • MA I candidates require one year of relevant healthcare experience, which can include an externship.
  • MA II candidates require at least three years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • MA II candidates must hold Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification.
  • Candidates must possess Basic Life Support authorization within 90 days of employment and maintain it during employment.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare visit charts using diagnostic test results, emergency or urgent care reports, discharge summaries, and consultation or primary care provider reports for scheduled appointments.
  • Room patients for provider visits by documenting the chief complaint, allergies, vital signs, medication list review, tobacco history, last menstrual period, health maintenance overrides, and other required information.
  • Obtain and document age- or condition-specific measurements, including vital signs, height, weight, head circumference, peak flow, and pulse oximetry.
  • Conduct and document hearing, vision, respiratory, and electrocardiogram testing.
  • Perform and document condition-specific screenings, including depression and asthma screening.
  • Obtain, document, and process specimens using the appropriate collection process and equipment.
  • Perform and document point-of-care testing accurately.
  • Perform venipuncture procedures as needed and process specimens according to policies and procedures.
  • Administer medications and immunizations through oral, nasal, injectable, rectal, and topical routes as appropriate.
  • Process medication prescription refills through telephonic, electronic, or print methods according to guidelines.
  • Handle prior authorization processes for medications and procedures and document them appropriately.
  • Manage clinical supplies and medication sample areas by maintaining current stock, appropriate storage and labeling, and established par levels.
Desired Qualifications
  • One to two years of experience in a clinical ambulatory care setting is preferred for MA I.
  • Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification is preferred for MA I.
