Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university program is required.
  • A Professional Engineer's License is required, with the ability to become registered in additional states.
  • At least 12 years of mechanical engineering experience is required, including experience designing data center facilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience with HVAC, chilled water, condenser water, liquid cooled systems, air handling systems, hot aisle containment, cold aisle containment, utility piping, plumbing systems, and similar mechanical building systems is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant local building codes and international standards is required to ensure compliance.
  • Experience working with Revit is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • A valid passport is required for occasional project-related international travel.
  • The role requires strong leadership and communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Act as a mechanical discipline project lead in a multi-discipline design team and oversee a multi-location production team with client engagement responsibilities.
  • Be responsible for the team's performance against contracted scope, schedule, and budget on medium- to large-sized data center design projects, and manage technical resources to accomplish project objectives.
  • Generate comprehensive technical project plans, specifications, drawings, and models for piping, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection systems, and related mechanical building systems, including clean and dry rooms, aligned with industry standards and client requirements.
  • Maintain effective communication with project team members and the client.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines.
  • Use engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  • Ensure the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of the work.
  • Manage the team's overall quality and perform quality reviews of project deliverables for accuracy, code and specification conformance, design-criteria conformance, and conformance to good engineering practices.
  • Participate in managing changes resulting from deviations in scope, schedule, or professional services for the discipline.
  • Meet with contractors to discuss technical aspects of project design and construction.
  • Conduct field verification and site walks to identify, validate, resolve, and integrate solutions into design packages.
  • Resolve design issues on site during construction as necessary.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, monitoring, and coaching to less experienced staff.
  • Participate in proposal preparation activities to establish scope of services, effort-hour estimates, exclusions and clarifications, deliverables, and staffing and work plans aligned with the project schedule.
  • Travel as required.

SHYFT Collective design team acquired by SSOE Group

SHYFT Collective design team acquired by SSOE Group. SSOE Group, a global architecture and engineering firm headquartered in Toldeo, Ohio, announced the acquisition of Des Moines-based SHYFT Collective's architecture and design team to enhance its service capacity in the Des Moines and Columbus, Ohio, markets. "Our clients will continue working with the same trusted team, now supported by the scale and experience of SSOE," Steve Reynolds, founding partner and principal of SHYFT, said in a prepared statement. "SSOE brings the capacity and portfolio of a firm that successfully delivers projects of every size and complexity. With their resources behind us, we now can execute larger scopes and provide a full range of services under one roof while also creating more informed designs using computational and AI powered tools." The acquisition closed on Oct. 10, with Shyft Construction continuing to operate independently in the Iowa and Ohio markets. Founded in 1948, SSOE is a global design firm with more than 1,400 employees and 20 offices worldwide.
