Requirements
  • High school diploma supplemented with post-secondary coursework in subjects such as social work, human services, gerontology, or one of the social or behavioral sciences, business or related field, and relevant work experience in public administrative support work OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Working knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, office forms and applications and other office procedures and terminology; and mathematics sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute rate, ratio and percent; and to draw and interpret graphs; principles and processes for providing customer service.
  • Some knowledge of basic human service needs and state computer programs.
  • Skill in operating a variety of automated office equipment to include calculator, fax/copier, scanner; and the use of computer-driven word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and file maintenance programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with clients, co-workers, professionals, and the public; read and comprehend simple documents; write simple correspondence; present information in one-on-one and small group situations; follow written and oral instructions; perform basic mathematics; plan, organize and prioritize daily tasks; use correct spelling and basic grammar; display common courtesy and be a team player.
Responsibilities
  • Operates various computer systems to conduct searches for initial applications, renewals and re-certification and/or to update information
  • Provides information and assists clients with completing applications, etc.
  • Provides case management support to the Benefit Programs staff
  • Prepares and mails correspondence
  • Prepares case files, completes inquiries
  • Pulls telephone messages for eligibility staff and returns calls
  • Provides written and/or oral documentation regarding client contacts, verification letters, and other situations
  • Sets up case files, typing or labeling case files, and completing forms
  • Contacts clients for requested/needed information and responds to routine questions in person, email or by telephone
  • Scans client documentation into DMIS/VaCMS for eligibility staff
  • Assist staff with SNAP renewals/interims, log and pull files, etc for Eligibility staff
  • Schedule client renewals
  • Liaison between Clerical and Eligibility department with client questions
