** This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule and requires a minimum of 2 days of onsite work a week. This is not a remote position. **
You are a proactive, driven technical writer concerned with directing, developing, and leading documentation development efforts for Army Weapon Systems. You’re also a self-starter with exceptional communication skills who enjoys working with a team to achieve required objectives. Your creativity and detail-oriented abilities ensure a disciplined approach to the development of required documentation that meets both the end-user’s need to setup, operate, and maintain a complex communication system but also complies with key stakeholder requirements related to format and structure of the documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as lead technical writer in an IPT/SIPT stakeholder environment in support of Army ACAT program documentation development.
- Responsible for outlining, prioritizing and completing technical writing development tasks in a manner that coincides with overall program cost, performance, schedule and contract requirements.
- Independently plans, drafts, edits, and prepares a variety of technical publications such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Technical Manuals (TMs), Modification Work Orders (MWOs), and other publication requirements.
- Coordinates, edits, and finalizes technical documents through application of editing and writing standards, procedures, formatting and terminology.
- Prepares technical documents, sheets, or papers based on research, subject matter expert (SME) or technical advisor input, observation of perfected or certified processes, or agency policy. Consult SMEs in order to develop content materials, and other special process technical data.
- Writes/edits documents using technical terminology to end-user requirements and level of understanding. Reviews material for proper grammatical usage, punctuation, format, spelling, style, and order of presentation. Rewrites sentences within paragraphs to improve clarity of meaning and consistency. Develops technical documentation formats and assures conformance to military standards and customer specifications. Coordinates changes or controversial information regarding format, content, grammatical usage, etc., with SME/Supervisor.
- Maintains records documenting development of documents such as revision tracking, dated milestones, letters of instruction, format, number of drawings and numeric designation, writer, etc. Uses state-of-the-art desktop publishing software and other software/hardware to prepare technical documents, i.e. word processing, line art creation and manipulation, or similar assisted drawing software.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of relevant technical writer experience. OR a High School Diploma/GED, and at least 10 years of technical writer experience.
- Experience in the development of military technical manuals in compliance with MIL-STD-40051C, MIL-STD-3031 and MIL-STD-38784 and other applicable standards and guidance.
- Must be willing and able to travel up to 25%.
- Must have an Active Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience providing support to the Department of Defense (DoD) /Army program of record (ACAT 1 to 3)
- Experience producing, editing, and converting graphics and digital images using Adobe Illustrator (AI).
- Proficient in developing and maintaining technical documents using Microsoft Office 365 suite, Adobe PDF, Ultra Edit, Arbortext, and Notepad++.
- Well versed in Logistic Management Information (LMI) and Integrated Logistics Supports (ILS) technical functions, support elements and documentation.
- Proficient in managing, editing, converting source or technical in SGML, XML, HTML or PDF formats.
