Principal Engineer

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineer, or related field.
•    8+ years of experience with programming (e.g., C, C++, Python), computer architecture, or embedded systems.

•    4+ years in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports.

•    1+ year of applicable wireless, semiconductor and/or embedded software industry experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Leverages expert knowledge of cellular technologies to research, design, standardize, implement, optimize, verify, validate, and commercialize Wireless WAN (or cellular) air interfaces, modem technologies, and related core network.

•    Designs, optimizes, and implements highly critical wireless systems and modems.

•    Collaborates with high-level stakeholders to develop high quality and high capability air interface and modems with high performance (e.g., capacity, coverage, throughput, latency, power consumption) and acceptable cost.

•    Creates well-defined architectures that meet ambiguous requirements and/or have a financial impact.

•    Makes overall recommendations to design architectures and/or test environment, and develop models, code, tests and/or simulations. Leads the integration of architecture and systems into a standard, chipset, platform, or product.

•    Writes detailed technical documentation(e.g., feature, component, and design descriptions) for highly complex projects; reviews documentation of experienced engineers.

Level of Responsibility:  
•    Provides supervision to direct reports.
•    Decision-making is critical in nature and highly impacts program, product, or project success.
•    Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey highly complex and/or detailed information. May require strong negotiation and influence with large groups or high-level constituents.
•    Works within the prescribed budgetary objectives of the department. 
•    Has a great degree of influence over key organizational decisions..
•    Tasks often require multiple steps which can be performed in various orders; extensive planning, problem-solving, and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively.
