Requirements
  • Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification or the Board of Certification, or a baccalaureate degree in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics or the foreign equivalent with current American Board for Certification board eligibility.
  • A valid driver's license and driving record within the standards outlined in Hanger's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures are required.
  • In states where licensure is required, the ability to obtain and maintain state licensure may be required.
  • Candidates certified in one discipline may be considered for seeing patients in that discipline while completing residency in the other discipline.
  • Candidates who are not certified or board-eligible may be considered if they have at least five years of demonstrated experience providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under the supervision of a certified clinician.
  • The role requires collaboration with physicians, patients, therapists, case managers, referral sources, administrative staff, and other clinical personnel.
  • The role requires compliance with safety regulations, Medicare and other governmental regulations, bloodborne standards, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with physicians to evaluate and analyze patients' needs for prosthetic and/or orthotic services and recommend treatment options when necessary.
  • Examine and evaluate patient needs in relation to disease and functional loss.
  • Formulate the design of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.
  • Select materials, make cast measurements, perform model modifications and layouts, and apply new techniques and materials.
  • Perform fitting, including static and dynamic alignments.
  • Evaluate prosthetic and/or orthotic devices on patients and adjust them to ensure fit, function, medical efficacy, and quality of work.
  • Instruct patients in the use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.
  • Identify and reconcile issues and problems to ensure patient satisfaction with provided devices.
  • Provide follow-up with patients and physicians.
  • Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health care professionals.
  • Use materials-management, quality, and performance processes to maximize device quality and medical efficacy while balancing costs and operational and financial performance.
  • Meet with physicians, case managers, and other referral sources to review prosthetic and/or orthotic services and capabilities and develop business relationships that identify and secure ongoing and future referrals.
  • Plan and implement strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets in coordination with management.
  • Provide detailed clinical notes for patient records.
  • Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians when needed.
  • Assist other clinical staff.
  • Provide information to administrative staff to conduct reimbursement activities.
  • Perform other assigned duties or special projects.
  • Perform on-call duties, hospital calls, or float between more than one Hanger Clinic location when requested.

  • A thorough understanding of the principles of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy, and physiology is desirable for success in the role.
  • A thorough understanding of componentry and its suitability and reliability for specific uses is desirable for success in the role.
  • A thorough understanding of medical terminology is desirable for success in the role.
  • Effective communication skills are needed for accurate, concise, and organized oral and written presentations and reports to patients and staff.
  • The ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers on patient-care objectives is desirable.
  • Active listening, reading, and comprehension skills are needed to analyze reports, charts, and correspondence.
  • The ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options is desirable.
  • Good interpersonal skills are needed to build professional relationships with physicians, therapists, and patients.
  • Effective organizational, time-management, and planning skills are desirable.
  • The ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques and independently lift 50 pounds is required.
  • The ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach constantly during the workday is required.
  • Sufficient near and distant visual acuity is required to maintain accurate records, recognize people, and understand written directions.
  • The ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions is required.
  • The ability to push wheeled equipment throughout the facility is required.
  • Fine motor skills sufficient for scheduling and preparing patients, equipment, and supplies for treatment are required.
  • The ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours in accordance with state labor laws is required.

Hanger acquires Liberating Technologies to advance prosthetic research and development

Hanger, Inc., a leading orthotic and prosthetic patient care provider, has acquired Liberating Technologies, Inc. (LTI), a research organisation founded in 2000 and previously owned by Coapt. LTI's research team has secured numerous government-funded grants since 2008 to develop next-generation technologies for the orthotic and prosthetic field. LTI will join Hanger Ventures and the Hanger Institute for Clinical Research and Education to drive innovation in clinical care. The team will continue current grant-funded initiatives, including advancing voice-recognition technology for prosthesis control and developing socket cooling systems for residual limb skin health.
