Requirements
  • A current Registered Nurse license to work in the state of Missouri is required.
  • One year of registered nurse experience is required.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Advanced Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • The employee must maintain current licenses and certifications, including Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support.
  • The employee must complete annual tuberculosis screening, influenza vaccination, ethics training, safety training, information security training, abuse and neglect training, blood-borne pathogens training when required, annual competency, age/population-specific competency when applicable, orientation competency when applicable, and service-specific requirements.
  • The employee must be able to perform occasional prolonged standing and walking and occasionally lift, position, push, or transfer patients.
  • The employee must be able to work irregular hours and handle emergency and crisis situations.
Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and reassessments, including age-appropriate admission, transfer, postoperative, and post-invasive-procedure assessments.
  • Document assessment findings, patient education, discharge needs, changes in condition, response to care, procedures, and other pertinent observations accurately and completely.
  • Establish, coordinate, evaluate, and modify plans of care based on assessment data, patient diagnoses, laboratory data, tests, procedures, physician orders, protocols, standards of care, and other relevant information.
  • Identify short- and long-term patient care goals and formulate nursing interventions to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Incorporate disease-specific evidence-based practices into nursing care plans and documentation.
  • Provide and document nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, the plan of care, and changes in patient status.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate daily plans of care for assigned patients.
  • Provide, coordinate, and communicate patient care, including accurate handoff communication reports.
  • Administer and document medications accurately according to policies and procedures.
  • Monitor, maintain, and document accurate intravenous fluids and parenteral nutrition according to policies and procedures.
  • Complete referrals and request consultations for special patient needs, equipment, or information.
  • Provide patient and family education and discharge planning according to documentation guidelines and protocols.
  • Clarify physician orders when warranted and acknowledge and implement physician orders accurately and promptly.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and treatments or delegate tasks to care partners as appropriate.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition, clinical parameters, and patient risks, and take appropriate nursing action.
  • Use infection control practices in daily care and follow standard precautions and hazardous-waste procedures.
  • Provide specialized care to high-risk patients, including restraint care, pain management, abuse assessment, and patient-safety interventions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care, medications, treatments, procedures, and patient/family education, and document the results.
  • Report significant clinical changes, care or treatment variations, risk-management concerns, suspected abuse or neglect, and other issues through the appropriate channels.
  • Participate in staff meetings, committees, shared governance, work teams, unit-based practice council activities, nursing research, performance improvement, occurrence reviews, and quality-indicator improvement.
  • Provide assistance and support to peers and team members, orient or precept new employees, serve as a resource person, delegate care appropriately, and supervise and teach students and new staff nurses.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and employees.
  • Provide timely, high-quality, courteous, respectful, and confidential service to patients and families.
  • Communicate procedures, education, medications, monitoring equipment, and plans of care clearly to patients and families.
  • Use resources efficiently, document chargeable supplies and equipment, prioritize responsibilities, and recommend practice changes that improve efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Provide age-appropriate care to adult and geriatric patients.
