Responsibilities
  • Study mitochondrial cell death mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases as part of the Mnatsakanyan laboratory, using integrated approaches including cryo-electron microscopy and tomography and electrophysiology (patch-clamp and planar lipid bilayer recordings) to study neuronal death pathways in Alzheimer's disease.
  • Participate in wet-lab experiments to isolate mitochondria from different tissues.
  • Purify protein from different hosts.
  • Isolate primary neuronal cultures from animals.
  • Conduct mitochondrial ion channel studies using electrophysiology and microscopy techniques.
  • Order lab supplies and perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Preference given to applicants with prior research experience with animal models or expertise in protein biochemistry/biophysics studies.
