Requirements
- A high school diploma, General Educational Development credential, or equivalent working knowledge is required.
- A valid driver's license and eligibility for coverage under the company's auto insurance policy are required; out-of-state employees must meet this requirement within 90 days of employment.
- At least one year of relevant experience in security, law enforcement, military service, or similar training and experience is required, unless the employee successfully completes the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital security officer training program.
- The ability to make accurate observations and exercise independent judgment in varied situations, including emergencies, is required.
- The ability to write comprehensive security reports and basic computer skills are required.
- Successful completion of required security department training, including all Officer Trainee competencies within the first six months of employment, is required.
- Successful completion of department-specific annual and mandatory training is required.
- A professional appearance and demeanor and strong verbal communication skills are required.
- A psychological evaluation must be passed upon hire and upon promotion to an armed officer.
- Proficiency with assigned skills and tools consistent with the force continuum, excluding firearms, must be maintained.
- The ability to demonstrate the physical requirements of the position through related skills testing is required.
Responsibilities
- Tour facilities and grounds and assist with the welfare and safety of personnel and patients.
- Investigate critical incidents and assist employees, patients, and visitors.
- Interface with emergency response agencies, secure doors, and monitor parking and traffic control.
- Report security violations and perform assigned security duties promptly and accurately across varied assignments and shifts.
- Respond to emergency codes for assistance and control.
- Frequently patrol and inspect facilities, grounds, and parking lots to help maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Assist employees with security-related matters, mediate disputes, conduct interviews and searches, enforce parking regulations and traffic control, and serve as a security subject matter expert.
- Assist medical staff in restraining and handling troubled or combative patients.
- Ensure security policies are followed, patrol unoccupied areas, set alarms when appropriate, and lock and unlock facility doors at prescribed times.
- Conduct money pickups from departments, log pickups, and deliver contents to the appropriate destination department.
- Release bodies from the morgue while ensuring all paperwork is complete.
- Check alarms to ensure they are working properly.
- Escort patients, visitors, and employees when required for security purposes.
- Participate in security lead training designed for staff.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable laws and regulations and perform citizen arrests when needed.
- Use critical thinking during extremely stressful situations.
- Use assigned skills and tools appropriately and effectively according to policy and training.
- Investigate and complete written reports of complaints, critical security incidents, and unusual activities involving patients, employees, and visitors.
- Maintain an accurate log of relevant security activities during each shift.
- Testify professionally in criminal court, state hearings, and review boards as required.
- Assist with maintaining and preserving confidential health documents, including scanning them into electronic patient health information systems, based on the assignment.
- Maintain accountability for valuables, property, and forms of evidence.
- Operate and monitor the Security camera system and download videos and recordings for safety, trip-and-fall, and security-related incidents.
- Monitor HUGs and access control systems.
- Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.
Desired Qualifications
- Law enforcement, military, or security-related experience, including experience working within a medical facility, is preferred.
- Additional related education and/or experience is preferred.
