Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited medical assistant program
  • CMA/CCMA/RMA certified
  • Meet eligibility requirements to take CMA/RMA and must be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Note: Vocational Coordinator to determine eligibility requirements for CMA or RMA within 6 months.
  • Must have the ability to do fractions, percentages, decimals, metric conversions.
  • Must have the ability to obtain, read and interpret data from equipment and computers and communicate findings amongst coworkers, providers and employers.
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills in interactions with coworkers and customers.
  • Must demonstrate accuracy and completeness in documentation and the performance of tasks.
  • Must have computer skills to facilitate accurate and efficient documentation in electronic health record.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and be able to effectively communicate in English with patients, visitors, and all members of the care delivery team.
  • Must be able to effectively handle confrontational situations with customers.
  • Work which produces levels of mental/visual fatigue which are typical of jobs that perform a wide variety of duties with frequent and significant uncontrollable deadlines.
  • Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients.
  • Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
  • Accompanies patients during and assists with office procedures.
  • Orders, stocks and prepares supplies for patient/clinic utilization
  • Provides skilled technical care according to unit-specific and generic structure standards, protocols and procedures, prescribed medical interventions, and nursing guidelines.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly environment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical patient care based on the population served as delegated by the Charge Nurse.
  • Assist the provider and nursing staff in collecting data, preparing patients for exams, administering medications and assisting with procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and safety as defined by hospital department and practice procedures and policy manuals.
  • Demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
  • Perform basic technical skills in the provision of patient care.
  • Respond/offers assistance to providers, patients and families.
  • Communicate with the providers about patient status, interventions completed, data collected and pertinent input to facilitate care planning.
  • Collect data including weights, vital signs, demographic information, lab specimens.
  • Utilize clinical equipment in providing care.
  • Utilize the computer to enter/retrieve patient data as defined by role.
  • Accompany patients during and assist with office procedures.
  • Order, stock and prepare supplies for patient/clinic utilization.
