  • A minimum of 6 years’ experience underwriting commercial property and casualty insurance.
  • Post-secondary education including relevant insurance designation(s) or education is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in understanding property and casualty policy wordings and their impact on claims scenarios.
  • Proven analytical skills and a solutions-oriented approach to underwriting that drives profitable growth.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and consider diverse perspectives during decision-making.
  • Ability to give and receive positive and constructive feedback respectfully.
  • Ability to manage internal and external meetings with professionalism and clarity while driving mutual accountability for results.
  • Experience with change management and adapting to new systems and processes.
  • Ability to support innovation through new idea testing, training, and ongoing monitoring of changes.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across business units.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of new and renewal property and casualty business, contributing to the region’s profitable growth in target lines of business.
  • Collaborate with risk services, actuarial, and claims teams to achieve profitable growth through technical research and relationship building.
  • Contribute to regional new business goals by maintaining a quality prospect pipeline through targeted marketing, cross-selling, and account-rounding efforts with key broker partners.
  • Ensure proper risk selection, exposure review, profitable terms and conditions, file documentation, and adherence to underwriting guidelines and strategies.
  • Support the team’s overall underwriting knowledge by handling referrals, sharing best practices, and providing formal and informal training.
  • Coach, mentor, and train colleagues on underwriting, business development, negotiation skills, and other professional-development skills.
  • Manage relationships with key brokers, clients, and prospects to provide service and gather market intelligence for expanding product and service offerings.
  • Collaborate on and manage multiline account solutions while highlighting product differentiators and value propositions.
  • Provide recommendations for regional growth strategies and broker and client plans.
  • Propose alternate underwriting-process solutions to improve service and simplify the business, and adopt new systems and processes.
  • Pursue continuous learning and development through industry events, relevant seminars, courses, and existing company expertise.
  • Follow inclusion guidelines, build diversity, equity, and inclusion knowledge, and adopt new related skills and processes to drive positive change.
  • Perform other assigned duties and projects.
