Mach is a defense manufacturing company that builds munitions to help the United States win future wars. Backed by $85M in funding from top venture firms, our small lean team ideates, designs, manufactures, and sells cutting-edge weapons to the Department of Defense.
Role Summary:
As an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer at Mach, you will drive our Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) evolution. You will collaborate closely with Product Engineering to revolutionize the entire product lifecycle, participate in cutting-edge prototype builds, and be at the forefront of innovation. You will have a key role in shaping the future of manufacturing at Mach Industries.
Responsibilities:
Work closely with Product Engineering and design to ensure manufacturability.
Work all phases of a product development from concept to manufacturing to end of life.
Provide production support engineering with respect to technically complex testing methods, procedures, and failure analysis.
Provide the Product Engineering team with feedback to enable quality cost-efficient manufacturability, at rate, without compromising product function or performance.
Participate in early prototype builds to validate manufacturability.
Be part of a world-class engineering team, with a focus on high-quality work and rapid project deployment.
Travel to the machine supplier and contract manufacturer for equipment bring-up.
Be the driving force behind evolving and optimizing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Assembly of Mach Industries products, ensuring we can manufacture efficiently, safely, and sustainably.
Conduct DFMA studies at part, assembly, and system level to provide design feedback.
Lead static and kinematic studies to simulate assembly and equipment interactions.
Drive content reduction, assembly simplification, and build-in-quality.
Lead PFMEA, build sequence, and process layout development; host new product virtual builds with cross-functional teams.
Support prototype and design validation builds: design and deliver proto manufacturing tooling, prepare the bill of process, lead manufacturing trials, etc.
Actively engaged in value engineering, challenge assumptions, and break the status quo.
Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in an engineering role related to DFMA, product optimization, manufacturing process, or equipment development.
Strong work experience in precision assembly, inspection, and automation equipment.
Required to understand and build tolerance analysis for parts and assemblies.
Knowledgeable in crafting machine qualification requirements, design of experiments, and failure analysis.
Understands machine qualification, including calibration, correlation, capability, repeatability, and reproducibility.
Able to communicate effectively in a worldwide environment.
Proven track record of cost reduction, project management, and engineering design required.
Working knowledge of GD&T principles favorable.
Working knowledge of robotics (6-axis), pneumatics, servo motors, motion controllers, PLC and PC-based control systems.
Knowledge in manufacturing and industrial engineering principles (OEE, cycle time analysis, DVA, Cp/Cpk, GR&R, ergonomics, DOE, quality control, equipment selection, return on investment, error-proofing, supply chain & logistics).
Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems using first principles, challenge assumptions, and biased towards action.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Experienced working within 2D & 3D CAD environments and various engineering tools.
Ideal Candidate:
Innovative and dynamic professional with 5+ years in DFMA, precision assembly, and automation. Proven track record in cost reduction and project management.
