Hermeus is developing a hypersonic aircraft capable of reaching speeds of Mach 5, which is over twice the speed of the Concorde, allowing for travel at approximately 3,800 miles per hour. This technology aims to significantly reduce travel times for airlines and government agencies interested in high-speed transportation. The aircraft's engine is powered by the Pratt & Whitney F100 turbine, and the company has recently achieved a key milestone by successfully testing this engine. Hermeus differentiates itself from competitors by focusing specifically on hypersonic travel and has garnered strong investor support, raising $100 million in a Series B funding round led by Sam Altman. The company's goal is to revolutionize high-speed travel by developing and selling these advanced aircraft.
