Our Team
In Digital Evidence Management System team (DEMS), we are solving some of the hardest cloud challenges today. Our mission is to protect life and preserve the truth. We manage hundreds of petabytes of video and digital evidence from nearly one million officers around the world. The evidence platform enables many services to protect the public and its protectors. For example, our ML and an analytics provide insight and oversight on evidence and its usage. We enable court systems to run faster and securely through secure sharing and management. Your Impact
You are a Staff Backend Software Engineer with experience building large-scale software applications. You have deep interest in backend technologies. You are excited about the care, feeding and growth of a high-availability, scalable cloud-based systems and the engineering organizations that build them. You jump into deep technical challenges. You instill new ideas into our engineering architecture and organization to help lead us into the next phase of scale and growth of our DEMs system.

What You’ll Do
Location: Seattle, WA / Remote, United States
Reports to: VP of Engineering
Direct Reports: None
- Set a high technical bar for the team through deep technical insights and architecture design reviews
- Mentor engineers
- Work across teams with Product, Design, and Engineering to solve some of our biggest technical challenges for our customers
- Improve our Engineering SDLC, including long-term roadmaps and scalability
- Build services that adhere to our high bar on availability and performance in this mission-critical space
What You Bring
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering
- You write beautiful, simple, maintainable code for backend microservices
- Experience building complex and impactful software in a team environment
- Deep skill in driving technical solutions across multiple teams
- Backend service experience in managed languages such as Java, Scala, Go, C#, or similar
- Strong experience with database, especially SQL and Cassandra
- Experience designing and delivering high-availability, scalable cloud-based systems
- Interest in helping to set the technical and organizational direction for a growing engineering team across multiple global locations

The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 200,000 in the lowest geographic market and USD 290,000 in the highest geographic market. The on target earnings range for this role is between USD 340,000 in the lowest geographic market and USD 550,000 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors.
