Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • One year of library or customer service experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • A valid Georgia driver's license is desirable.
Responsibilities
  • Perform general circulation desk duties, including checking library materials in and out, operating the automated circulation system, receiving and registering materials, assessing returned items, sorting and shelving books, assisting patrons with locating materials, answering questions, registering patrons, updating patron records, and collecting pertinent data.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service to library patrons and the public, including greeting visitors, directing them to library areas, providing information about services and procedures, researching titles and availability, reserving materials, notifying patrons about reserved or overdue items, and assisting with the copy machine.
  • Provide computer and miscellaneous reference assistance, including helping patrons use public computers and wireless internet, websites, software, printing, connections, reference materials, databases, and online information resources.
  • Receive and process new and donated materials for the collections, determine their condition, and determine their placement.
  • Collect and record payments for fines, fees, book sales, and other library services; write receipts; remove fine data from the computer; count revenues; balance receipts; and prepare cash drawers.
  • Perform general library operations tasks, including recording door statistics, maintaining patron supplies, moving book carts, loading and unloading book drops, opening and closing the library, operating equipment, setting the alarm system, monitoring security equipment and weather alerts, checking patron items, maintaining the library's appearance, cleaning counters, emptying wastebaskets, sweeping or vacuuming floors and steps, and watering plants.
  • Develop branch displays by researching, designing, assembling, and maintaining book displays for patrons.
