EU approves Clarios acquisition of Ecobat's lead recycling plants in Germany and Austria

The European Commission has approved Clarios's acquisition of three Ecobat lead recycling plants in Germany and Austria without conditions. The sites are located in Braubach, Freiberg and Arnoldstein. Clarios, a major producer of lead-acid batteries for the automotive sector, already operates recycling facilities in Germany and Spain. The acquisition strengthens its vertical integration by adding capacity to process spent batteries and produce secondary lead and alloys. Brussels examined the transaction's impact across the value chain, including scrap battery supply, secondary lead production and tolling services. The investigation found that competitors retain access to sufficient recycled lead volumes through alternative smelters, and independent recyclers maintain adequate outlets. The Commission concluded Clarios has no incentive to reduce scrap battery purchases.

Clarios introduces battery-as-a-service program at TMC.

Clarios introduces battery-as-a-service program at TMC. Battery Manager Pro uses health data and predictive alerts to cut downtime and costs. Managing Editor, Features and Multimedia March 19, 2026 1:00 PM, EDT Battery Manager Pro provides continuous battery health monitoring, predictive replacement planning and automatic delivery of replacement batteries when needed. (Clarios) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Battery manufacturer Clarios has introduced a battery-as-a-service program to optimize battery replacement and reduce costs for fleet operators. The new subscription-based service, named Battery Manager Pro, provides continuous battery health monitoring, predictive replacement planning and automatic delivery of replacement batteries when needed. Clarios announced the new service at the Technology & Maintenance Council's 2026 Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition. Battery Manager Pro enables a more data-driven approach to battery management than the typical buy and replace model, in which fleets sometimes replace batteries earlier than necessary or wait too long and experience a battery failure. For a fixed monthly fee, this fully managed service smooths out fluctuations in battery-related expenses while helping fleets prevent vehicle downtime. Clarios notifies fleets in advance so they can schedule battery replacements during the vehicle's next preventive maintenance. "Battery Manager Pro enables fleets to focus on their core operations while we take care of managing the batteries," said Cagatay Topcu, vice president of Connected Services at Clarios. "Our predictive approach ensures batteries are replaced only when needed, helping fleets reduce unexpected failures and total costs of ownership by maximizing their battery investment." Battery Manager Pro is the latest addition to Clarios' Connected Services portfolio. Other services include IdleLess, which delivers battery-related insights that enable fleets to eliminate unnecessary engine idling time and conserve fuel. Clarios also offers Battery Manager and Trailer Battery Manager, which provide real-time insights into battery health and charge status.

Clarios Connected Services introduces Battery Manager Pro at TMC 2026.

Clarios Connected Services introduces Battery Manager Pro at TMC 2026. GlobeNewswire | Clarios Today at 4:03am PDT NASHVILLE, TN, March 17, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Today, Clarios Connected Services introduced Battery Manager Pro(TM) at the Technology & Maintenance Council Exhibition (TMC) 2026. This new fully managed service offering supports consistent battery performance through continuous health monitoring, predictive replacement planning, and automatic delivery of the optimum replacement batteries at the right time. Many fleets lack accurate insights into battery health and either replace batteries earlier than necessary, resulting in avoidable costs and lost value from premium battery technologies, or wait until a battery fails, risking a vehicle downtime event. For a fixed monthly fee, Battery Manager Pro solves this challenge by monitoring batteries remotely and automatically delivering replacements when batteries are nearing end of life. Fleets are notified in advance so replacements can be scheduled during the vehicle's next preventative maintenance. Battery Manager Pro expands Clarios' growing Connected Services portfolio, which includes solutions such as IdleLess(TM), Battery Manager, and Trailer Battery Manager, using the same IoT hardware and cloud-based analytics platform. This total system approach forms a scalable, data-driven ecosystem that helps fleets reduce downtime, improve battery reliability, and optimize operating costs across all vehicle segments. "Battery Manager Pro enables fleets to focus on their core operations while we take care of managing the batteries," said Cagatay Topcu, vice president Connected Services at Clarios. "Our predictive approach ensures batteries are replaced only when needed, helping fleets reduce unexpected failures and total costs of ownership by maximizing their battery investment." Through its predictive analytics and continuous monitoring, Battery Manager Pro ensures timely battery replacement and provides fleets with a predictable, subscription-based cost structure. Real-time data allows Clarios to recommend the battery that best fits each vehicle's unique usage profile - maximizing battery performance and reducing downtime.
